Not sure but,I don't think the Studio went after David Tennant.Don't think he was typecast?I think David himself or his Agent submitted him for the role.Just talking from experience in saying that most actors and actresses like playing villians more.they're so much more fun and interesting to play.Look at Negan.I played "Harry Roat Jr. in the stage play "Wait Until Dark".The character was a psychotic drug smuggler in the 60's.It became a movie starring Audrey Hepburn and Alan Arkin who played the character I played.It's a fantastic movie!!!You'd like it Katie.
