Not washing powder -- Lye. It breaks down flesh. The cop calling for the bomb squad is training. Unattended packages or bags mean "bomb". Funny anecdote about that. I almost lost my first post-Navy job because of a lady left her backpack in the store. I found it, and training kicked in. After a pretty heated discussion, my boss decided to go and look in it. Luckily, it didn't detonate; but the baby bottle full of milk turned. I still won't touch any bag or box that's just left around.
