I think you misunderstood the 'pretext' bit of dialogue from the old man, he wasn't admitting to his interaction with Titus being one just so he could get what hes been planning, he was assuming Scherazade asking for Titus back was just a pretext so she could start a war with his country. In reality, neither of them actually wanted a war, they're just so drawn into protecting what they consider one of their own that they're willing to kill each other over them (in this case, Titus). Also there was a short after credits scene you missed cuz you stopped too early, nothing groundbreaking but it showed Alibaba coming to Magnoshtadt with the fanalis corps, so it seems we're going to have a reunion very soon
