For Baba, the alternative is to resist enough that it is more costly to take them over than it is worth to have them... But then again, that only works if the enemy cares about the ressources or locations you have.

Still, Baba wasn't wrong, they can either resist the empire or join them, but they cannot win a war, even with Aladdin (and idk if they'd be willing to rely on him), its not a choice that can be made as the alternative of war equals suicide
