"when the whole nico robin fiasco at enies lobby didn't result in a demotion for Rob Lucci and others" To be fair, they did have to deal with some aftermath. In the manga it was seen in a cover page story (shown during the Sabaody arc) that Spandam pinned all of the blame on CP9, and they were subsequently hunted by the marines after fleeing Enies Lobby. Lucci needed urgent medical attention (Luffy legit put his life in danger with how hard he defeated him) and CP9 found themselves performing party tricks and chores in the street with their devil fruits in order to raise money for Lucci's medical bills. Then CP9 (including a bandaged Lucci) fended off some pirates that attacked the town they were in. Before CP9 could take their leave (they freaked out the townsfolk with how violent they were against the pirates), the marines showed up and they fought their way through them before sailing away. So in a way, Lucci and co did have to start again from the bottom. They lost their position and had to go on the run. I guess due to their skills they eventually managed to get another chance and build their reputation again during the time skip.

Also, remember that Luffy got the fruit from a chest that Shanks was keeping and Shanks said that it was a recent acquirement at the time that was taken from an enemy ship. So this means Shanks stole directly from the world government. Does shanks know something or was it just a spur of the moment? Also this occurred in the East Blue, the most peaceful of seas. The world gov sent cp9 to the most peaceful sea for a fruit that turns your body rubber? Something smells bad and it isn't my pants for once.

2023-03-07 01:16:35 +0000 UTCAnd yet Lucci, Spandex, and Kaku got to keep their jobs for failing to apprehend Nico Robin and failing to protect Enies Lobby. Hell, they all got moved up to CP0, which is the top branch of CP(Though I do think Spandex took the fall to a degree since he answers to Lucci now). Makes you wonder just how badly the government wanted that fruit given the contrast in the WG's reactions to both losses. Also, inb4 "spoilers" I have not read the manga past the point of the anime so I genuinely have no idea why the WG wanted that fruit so badly.

2023-03-07 00:27:54 +0000 UTCThe real questions one has to ask themselves, as these were my thoughts when the chapter that this episode is covering first came out... is why did the govt want the gum gum fruit so badly that they had their secret assassin agents (remember CP1 through CP8 are known but CP9 is secret to everyday citizens) transport the devil fruit. And then on top of that simply losing the devil fruit cost him to get imprisoned. The entirety of CP9 lost to the strawhats, had their judicial island burn up in flames, and still Kaku and Lucci were basically promoted to CP0. Working directly under the celestial dragons. But Who's Who got imprisoned for losing the gum gum fruit? There's gotta be more to this than what he's telling us, right?
