I don’t know if you missed it, but it showed Gin’s teacher’s decapitated head in the flashback. Showing that Gin’s rescue mission in the past was a failure and his teacher was executed

The IRL person based on Yoshida Shoyou, Yoshida Shoin was one of those. -Oboro calls himself the Yatagarasu, which is a mythical 3 legged crow that is a messenger for the Shinto/Japanese gods (or in this case, it’s a metaphor, with “god” being that POS SadaSada).
