Actually, the whole underwear theme in this episode is a reference to the fact to the Japanese tradition, that when a girl starts to become older, she starts insisting that her underwear be washed separately from her father's. On one hand, it's a sign of independence, that she wants to get used to doing things separately, and on the other hand, it's a sign of rebellion. That she's starting to view her father as "gross" and distance herself from him.
