At the end there with the barrels full of cement and playing cards, it's implied Dallas and his two goons escaped from the watery grave that the Gandor brothers sent them to. And yes this is a great ending, ironically though the Light Novels continued way past this point. Firo and Isaac both went to Alcatraz where they met Ladd and Huey Laforet. Firo eventually got married to Ennis but that was in 2001 since it took her that long to be able to reciprocate his feelings. Czes, Maiza and Silvie went on a trip around the world trying to gather the remaining immortals, and tell that Szilard had been devoured. Along the way they met Elmer and a village made up of some of Szilard's failed experiments. Like the Vice President said, the story just goes on and on. A consequence when you have characters that are immortal.
