He's been mentally pushed far enough to be okay with killing Rick if he wants it to happen. Pretty big example of the mounting repressed rage that briefly came out of him during the Purge episode. 2.) On the other side of things, he was willing to blindly kill Rick just so he wouldn't shoot Summer (who isn't even his real sister), which on some level is really sweet and shows the part of him that's still human.
