Wow, what an amazing arc! Once Jirocho and Gin get done slicing their way towards each other, this is gonna be a beauty of a battle!

WHAT A SHOWDOWN! - Gintama #213

Comments

I actually appreciate that. Beats other long running shonen anime that drag their serious arcs out way too long.

Also, I love when Gin and Jirocho are laughing before the slaughter and Kada is freaking out. She may be a master schemer, but she doesn't understand the mindset of battle-hardened war vets. They don't give up just because the odds are against them. They aren't gamblers. They fight the battles they have to, even if they don't stand a chance.

They really do give Shinpachi a lot to work with in this arc. He lectures Gin, and takes out of the biggest hitters; a master swordsman (woman) in one hit. Even if they don't focus on Shinpachi a lot. It shows you how much he really has improved.

I mean, She very much could have died. He did give her the best chance he could, but he would have had no regrets if she had died. His goal was to take control of the town so they he could expel Kada and the Harusame, in order to keep his promise to protect the town.

I don’t see the problem, I understand what you mean about having a longer arc but that will come later anyways. What’s most important is the story accomplishes what it needs to in such a short time. Every episode within that story is high staked, don’t need drag it out.

I actually kind of appreciate that. They tell the story they came to tell and don't bother padding it out

SL

Yea, they're quick, but damn they're intense and satisfying!

Probably my only complaint about Gintama arcs is that they cram so much stuff into so few episodes. Within about 4 episodes you get introduced to a cool villain, usually a cool new future reoccurring character, and then the situation is resolved and the villain is usually dead. Feels like each short arc is a speed run of a whole season in another series.

Yea, this show definitely gets even better as it matures!

They mentioned it briefly last episode, but Jirocho actually intentionally made sure not to kill Otose. He was just playing along to get to Kada

SL

I think it's fair to say that after these past 100 episodes your level of enjoyment for Gintama has escalated to S Tier, the story picked up rapidly and now we're at this point where it's (as Sheamus quotes) "Banger after banger after banger".
