They're also called Zephyr/Seffle particles in the subs i know, this is the first time i've seen it actually getting called a gas.

2022-10-10 22:21:12 +0000 UTCRegarding the Seffle gas, basically it's a highly explosive particle that can explode even in the vacuum of space. It can be detonated by beam weaponry, so basically the engineering ships directed the gas towards the defensive satellites and then moved the fleet closer when the gas had reached them, and when the satellites fired they detonated the gas and destroyed themselves. It hadn't been used in large scale warfare before so that's why no one was expecting it.
