What an absolutely AMAZING arc!... It's hard to believe that was only the 6th ranked badass! Can't wait for more!

HEARTWRENCHING BACKSTORY! - Demon Slayer, S2E18

Comments

So, I'm about a year late on watching this since I had put demon slayer on hold to debate the pros and cons of watching Rengoku die for like the 8th time. But I'm glad you enjoyed this season and hopefully you enjoy the current season just as much if not more. A couple interesting things to note, at this point Tengan is only 23 years old and is about to retire with 3 hot wives. WTF!! That's just not fair! He also has a cool eye scar and the Skywalker trademark to add to his flashy looks which I would take. Another interesting and "fun" thing is that there is actually some level of realism to this arc because the actual entertainment district that this arc was based off of, called the Yoshiwara district, actually completely burned down during this time period and before it could recover was hit by a massive earthquake which pretty much was the end of the entertainment district. This arc kind of used that in it's storytelling as the town is similarly engulfed in flames and shaken to its core. However, unlike in reality where it was taken out by assholes and a natural disaster, this was demons who were also assholes. So I thought that was a neat, if not a little morbid, juxtaposition for this cool arc.

Mighty Snake

Yeah, those two have my second favorite backstory. And about the manga sales, yeah, it is the first manga to actually outsell One Piece in like a decade. And I believe the only manga to have more sales per volume than Demon Slayer is Dragonball. It is truly a force to be reckoned with.

Tyler

My only thought was "Deus ex Nezuko" when she healed everyone from poison 😅

V_VMat

Great villain! Awesome design, voicing, execution, everything!

Favorite demon he was just badass start to finish, overall I think he’s my 3rd favorite demon including the ones to come in the future

George

Should he watch the teaser for the next season? It doesn't contain any spoilers.

Richie Roberts

Yup, he's like the Crocodile (Mr. 0) of his world.

Dandy

From the wiki (and I'm quite sure it's been stated before by Tamayo) The Twelve Kizuki (十じゅう二に鬼き月づき, Jūnikizuki?, lit. Twelve Demon Moons) is an organization of the twelve most powerful demons in existence who are under the direct command of the Demon King, Muzan Kibutsuji. Based on that, it stands to reason, Muzan himself would not be one of them.

Schmul Sjifris

Actually, I wanted to point out something. Muzan is not the upper 1 moon, he's above that person I believe.

Austin Carmack

Wow, that's a cool observation... Yea, it would definitely explain his overall look!

NICE!! 😁

UGH! The waiting is brutal!... Likewise, I had SO much fun watching this with you guys! My whole anime experience is thousands of times more fun and rewarding because we get to watch together! 😊

Spaz Boys Comedy

Yea, I thought the demon backstories were very well executed! 😊

So Ume means plum, but from what I have heard it can also refer to Syphilis, which would greatly explain Gyutaro’s appearance, because if his mother had syphilis he has a lot of symptoms of congenital syphilis instead of just being “born ugly”.

I agree that they shouldn’t be forgiven, but I don’t think that’s what the backstories attempt to do. Not all demons got a backstory, like lower one, but many do, to show that they shouldn’t be forgiven, but rather pitied for their existence, many we saw were sick, dying, or suffering in some other way right before their transformation, and saw salvation and accepted without realizing the consequences until it was too late. Of course after the transformation they became monsters, both inside and out, but I tend to lean on that being a side effect, like a compulsion brought on by the blood, not controlling them but gagging the angel on their shoulder and giving the devil a megaphone. Of course most of them were already bad to begin with, but the blood 100% amplified that. Like rui he was sickly and when he transformed he ate his family, and he definitely wasn’t in control at the time since we have repeatedly seen lashing out is the first thing a new demon does, and he was left only with the desire to have a family and feel loved, which was twisted into the horrible relationship he created. As for gyu and daki, they were left with bitterness about their situation and a hatred for people with a better life, which a lot of people in that district probably felt, but then when they transformed it was greatly amplified into what they displayed on screen.

Hunter Gordon

Good on Tengen for surviving! When he recovers, he'll probably get to participate in the most flashy foursome he's ever seen!

Man this is such an amazing series, I cannot wait for season 3, it's gonna be brutal waiting for it. It was fun watching thru this with you.

Noah

Such a great way to end the season. Now that season 3 is on its way I'm even more excited. No time frame has been released yet but if I had to guess. I'd say maybe December of this year it would only make sense. Season 1 was 2019, the movie was 2021, and season 2 was 2022. Also some points I wanna mention about Gyutaro's backstory that was left out is that Gyutaro would always feed his sister the good food he would always manage to get his hands on, while he gave him self the shifty food like mice and insects. Their mother HATED Ume. Since she was so pretty so much so that one time she tried to cut her hair off completely. But Gyutaro intervened and took the hits for Ume. The reason Ume stabbed that samurai is because the samurai had insulted Gyutaro. And she didn't like that. Also some cool similarities I've seen people point out, Gyutaro and Tanjiro had very similar surroundings and events in their lives. Both were poor, only Tanjiro didn't let that get to him. Gyutaro was despised in the village he grew up in, while Tanjiro was loved by the village he grew up in, both were away when tragedy struck, it snowed when both of their tragedys happened, Tanjiro was saved by a Hahsira, while Gyutaro was saved by an Upper rank demon. Sorry this is so long I promise it's almost over😂 The Mangaka *manga author* has said that she specifically doesn't put the demon backstories to make the audience feel bad or even give them some sympathy. She has said that they are still horrible creatures, creatures who have killed and eaten people. But she outs the backstories to get us to understand why it is that they became what they are. All the demons so far have just been people who were dealt a bad hand. Well that's about it hope you enjoyed the read and I'm excited for your reactions to season 3

Gerardo

I'm going out here and saying it but I didn't care for Gyutaru and Daki's backstory. It was rough that I will admit but that's doesn't exclude the hundreds of innocent people they devoured and or tortured. Oh boo hoo my life sucked let me kill abd eat people that had nothing to do with my pain. I felt no pity for rui and I feel no pity for these two. I do sympathize a bit but still Fock em. Beyond that though this was an amazing arc lad, and the upcoming ones will only keep getting better and better! The dangers will keep on getting more fierce. Oh and lad, Douma, the rainbow eyes demon, is more sadistic and fucked up than even Muzan himself. That's all I will tell you
