It really says something about Oda's character writing, that I actually like Oden more than Zoro. And don't get me wrong, I love Zoro, but Oden is just too awesome. Pretty much everything I aspire to be as a man.

A big difference between the way the Manga handled Oden's backstory vs the Anime was, in the manga, Oden was kept either entirely out of the panel or only partially showing and fully in silhouette until the flashback actually begins. I feel that it helped build the "legend" or "story" of Oden a bit better than the anime did, but giving us glimpses of him and his expressions/appearance before the flashback helped build a stronger connection to the "character" and the "man" who is Oden. Watching him go both ways almost kind of leaves you with a slightly different feeling too. In the manga, it's like watching the conclusion of a play, a portrayal of a great tale, while in the anime, it's more like being present for the passing of an admirable hero.

As much as she sucks, the old bag/hag helped Orochi SO FREAKING MUCH, and he did not care even a little that Kaido killed her. That shows you what even being loyal to that S.O.B get's you.

Double post: The Narrator said the temperature was 700 degrees Celsius, for us Americans that would be 1292 degrees Fahrenheit. Oden endured a 1200(8 shy of 1300) degree boiling pot for an hour while holding up 9 other people on a solid wooden plank. Combined they had to have been over 1000 lbs plus however much that plank weighed. Clearly Oden did not skip leg day XD

When Kaido apologized to Oden about the old woman interfering I kind of lessened my hate of him. He wanted a fair fight and her doing what she did pissed him off. Orochi obviously didn't care that she died, but Oden did appreciate the gesture. Its never stated how the old man died, but I'd assume he just died of natural causes since his Devilfruit power passed over to Bartolomeo. The phrase "Oden would not be Oden if it wasn't boiled" more or less foreshadowed how Oden would meet his end. Granted it was the headshot by Kaido that killed him. At least Kaido looked Oden in the eyes when he pulled the trigger. Orochi would have had someone else do it behind Oden's back. RIP Kozuki Oden, First of His name, Lord and Protector of The Realm of Wano, the brother of both Edward "Whitebeard" Newgate and Gol D. Roger, and the true Shogun. And now his voyage is ended.

I've been waiting for this episode for months! Oden was an absolute legend and hero. May he enjoy oden over the fires of victory in the one piece afterlife when Luffy kicks Kaido's ass!

Well to kaido's credit he did kill the old hag for interfering with the fight. He didn't want to win like that. And orochi's two family members had to be dead since Bartolomeo and bon clay have their devil fruits in the current story

This show has only made me cry 2 times, aces death and Odens death, man this is my all time fav backstory of anything ever, oden was such a great character, and the soundtrack playing while he dies is just some of the best music ever heard in this series, I love it so much.
