Honestly, Visha was right about Tanya being kind in her own way to Lieutenant Grantz, that he was just following her orders, and that he's not responsible for what happened, she's been trying to reassure herself of that as well as you saw at the start of the episode. what they did in Arene was awful, but it's stated flat out in the light novels that it would have led to a lot more death if they hadn't done it, still terrible what they did.

Also you can actually see that Warrant Officer she's writing to the family of. In the background of the scene where Bright-Eyes (ironically she shares a name with Charlton Heston) and the 2nd Louie talk. He's in the background writhing and screaming in pain, being told to hold on by the medical staff. That was one rotten potato.
