Funny thing is (and I didn't know this before looking up just now) but Brief is actually Bulma's dad's GIVEN NAME, (from Dragon Ball wiki:) -"Like everyone in his family, Dr. Brief's name is a (more obvious) pun on undergarments. Notably, this is actually his given name; due to English language conventions regarding the use of polite titles, fans have accidentally refer to him and other members of the family (especially Bulma) with it as a surname."- And Bulma's mom's name is Panchy (or Bikini)
