Honestly in that Captain of the Guard's position I wouldn't have tried to fight those things in the open. I'd have settled into a siege, and waited to see what happened. Possibly sent out Scouts to make sure they weren't raiding the countryside and if they weren't, then they're no longer problem then are they? Instead this moron decided to have a pitched battle with literal Hell-Spawn in a crowded port-side neighbourhood. Likely dooming the entire city to being eaten or turned into more of the aforementioned Hell-Spawn.
