I agree if ur feeling are based on a real connection other than the person is cute and helped me once. Change the scene around here with Emilia being the one coming to Subaru saying she is worthless and he has to cheer her up like Rem did for him. I would imagine all he would say is u are cute and the first girl I met in a fantasy world. To me he isn’t in love with Emilia, he is infatuated with her.

Yea it’s a funny thought that if Rem was the first beautiful lady that he ran into in this world he would most likely feel the same way about her. Just rotten luck on her part. I know he does have the one action figure that Emilia is based off in his room so maybe that helped the initial attraction but still I assume he woulda had the same feelings for Rem, Ram, any of the other three (Felt is too young) ruler candidates and even the Blond maid from season two. It not too rough since from REM’s prospective “as long as u leave a little for me” seems to be enough for her. I don’t really see anything appealing about Emilia honestly though. She is just kinda exists to be a goofy two shoes Disney princess type with no personality other than bing half elf, like the witch. Basically if someone asked me to describe her personality I would just say she she is nice and half elf, like the witch. Nothing else matters with her.

For me I was a little surprised that this is the scene everyone made a big deal out of given Rem’s calm reaction to it. I get it but it just didn’t feel to me as big a deal as people made it out to be.

Curtis, go google "I love Emilia meme" for some laughs, your reaction is pretty much the reaction of the internet when he said that. It wasn't until Season 2 came out and Emilia got fleshed out as a character more that some people stopped hating on her heh.

Yeah, Rem would be a great match for Subaru, but you gotta at least admire his devotion. I think I'm one of the only people who didn't have a negative reaction to him rejecting Rem, even though I do feel bad for her. And honestly, even though he's clearly choosing Emilia, this could still develop into a harem at some point 😏 I can imagine a scenario where Rem gets really pent up and decides to tie Subaru to a bed one night 😆

I understand your reaction to the way that conversation played out, but relationships are complicated. While I think Rem is better for him, once you love someone you shouldn't just ditch that feeling because someone potentially better to be with comes along. Loyalty in relationships is a virtue, though one we lack these days. Look at divorce and infidelity rates.

Ok I've been holding off on this interesting thing about RE:Zero for awhile now but since we are so far in I think this would be a good time to tell you Curtis about something interesting that the Author or Re:Zero does. Every few months (I don't know the exact number or if it's month's or years but anyway) the author decides to write a sort of "What If" story about some of the stuff Subaru does in the story. Lets note that in every arc Subaru is dealing with a personal issue, a "Sin" he is dealing with. During this arc it is Sloth. Subaru in this episode wants to desperately give up because he can't find a way to fix the situation. In these What If's, Subaru doesn't change and stays the flawed man he is and it produces some (in my opinion) very interesting stories. I'll point out just one to give you an idea of what these are. (also only the arc's he has finished, I won't be spoiling anything in the main story) During one Subaru doesn't get help with the Bowl Hunter and dies so many times he basically becomes grim and his morality takes a nosedive. Eventually Reinhert beats the Bowl Hunter and past that event he spirals downhill. He becomes a part of the witch cult with Beutelguse (i can't spell that right) and basically comes up with the idea of becoming the ultimate evil that Emelia will kill and becomes a hero to everyone. It's a very interesting thing and I just thought since your so far into the series there wouldn't be any harm in telling you about them.

I don't really mind Subaru here, he was already head over heels for Emelia so it makes since he would choose her. I like Rem more but Subaru can't change his core feeling like a switch. Of course I get why people may gravitate toward Rem and Subaru over Emelia and Subaru. Rem and Subaru had a bigger struggle to get to the point they are right now, first Rem didn't like him so much (she even killed him a time or two in some routes) but due to his efforts and their growing friendship it became stronger, more compelling. With Emelia, Subaru and her were already on good terms when they first met, there wasn't as an impactful growth with their relationship as with Rem so it's understandable why people would prefer one over the other.

Rems great but if one thing annoys me about anime its people never sticking to their guns like they say they like a character never try to get close or even talk to them then end up falling in love with someone else along the way makes it seem like their conviction was shit also i think Emilia is a good girl and he can probably just make Rem his mistress arent all Nobles expected to have that type of stuff

And so the prologue of the story ends. Natsuki Subaru has led a miserable life up until this point and was quite frankly a shit human being. But he has the opportunity to start over from zero and with a little help from those around him, we can now watch him grow into the hero he wants to be.

btw this episode (originally episode 18, and novel 7) is officially considered as the end of Re:Zero's prologue. not very important to know, i just think its cool that Tappei has already made one of the best stories ever (IMO) and it was just the set up

fun fact the author actually released a what if where Rem agreed to run off with Subaru and leave to another country, they basically have a happy life theres a small even which is the events of the what if but aside from that they get married, have kids, gets jobs and live a good life and subaru nevers resets. although tappei kind of ruined the happiness it by revealing that when Subaru eventually dies of old age hed just reset to the Appa guy and have to experience losing more than he ever has
