Angry Call

Ever since Joe's dad passed away, Joe's mom's retirement income was cut in half, and she was not doing very well financially, so Joe really wants her to spend less on unecessary stuff (like paying for his sister's grocery shopping) and have more savings in her bank account. But their phone conversations often got very heated, sometimes it almost became uncomfortable to hear... 😑

That was me a few moments when my keyboard kept disconnecting, more and worse than usual. But seriously, yeah, it isn't fun when on the phone with an elderly person in the family - for me it's my Nanni (Mum's mum).

2021-04-13 00:27:51 +0000 UTCI guess my mom also have a hearing Problem. She is 76 yo. I usually have to repeat my sentence when having a conversation in the phone. But, I love her the same as Joe love her mom too... thanks for share this, so I can realize how deep I love my mom. 😊

2021-04-12 15:25:31 +0000 UTCI agree with you. I mean, why the heck is she paying for his sister's groceries? The sister should be paying for Mom's stuff! In Canada it is possible to have a power of attorney that only covers financial matters, and a separate one for medical matters. So, Joe could be her POA for finances and not have to be in charge of medical decisions until it's needed. It might cause friction in the family if one sibling (Joe) is in charge of the money, especially if one or more siblings are taking advantage of Mom, but if it's in her best interest they'll have to just suck it up. Joe will have to be prepared to stand his ground, and you'll have to stand with him. I know you don't like conflict, Lolo, but you might have to deal with a great deal of it for a time. Stay strong, both of you. I've been in a very similar position and it's not easy.
