August 7, 2018 – Florence (Firenze), Italy
One of our goals is to experience real Italian food. And the evening we arrived in Florence, we went out to look for one good restaurant for diner. At the city centre, though there were many restaurants, nearly all of them were packed with tourists, and the only tables left were the tables nobody wanted, whether it was a table near the toilets or a table facing the hot kitchen. I don't know if I was picky in our gourmet Italian food hunt, but I didn't want to sit at a table like that and order something made for a tourist crowd. We ended up not eating anything and went back to hotel.
August 8, 2018 – Fiesole, Italy
We went outside the city and these country hill roads led us to a small restaurant on a farm in a lovely small village called Fiesole. Quite a story how we got there. Initially we just wanted to visit the village known for being the residence of Michelangeo, but we got lost.
Yeah, I know it sounds silly, but here’s why: at a certain point, we were so taken away by the beautiful view and Joe somehow got confident in his sense of directions, we didn’t listen to the GPS, so we lost our way, and these country roads on the hills were narrow (1.8 meters). It was not even a two way road, only one car could pass.… and the road took us to a nearby village called Fiesole.
And since it was noon, we decided to pick a local restaurant to have lunch. Well, “pick” is a little bit exaggerated, cause we didn’t find much options. But we still found what seemed to be the only restaurant in town (which is probably not true, but that’s my impression)
There, we were the only clients and surprisingly we were welcomed with a great view. The server didn't speak a word of french but she was really nice. We ordered some simple dishes and all of them turn out to be delicious. Funny in life, we often found the nice thing when we were not looking for it.
A plate full of cheese and bacons for Joe.

2018-08-21 09:35:38 +0000 UTCJust a suggestion if you are still in Tuscany: try “pappa al pomodoro” (bread and tomatoes , simple but delicious) and (if not vegetarian) “Fiorentina” (big veal meal of a special cow race living in Tuscany, to be eaten very rare). And, by the way, I understand Joe :-)
