Added 2018-08-17 22:43:26 +0000 UTCSeeing Michelangelo's David was definitely one of the highlights of our vacation in Florence, Italy.
That moment was almost magical. The moment I stepped on the floor of the exposition hall, I just felt the dominant presence of this magnificent sculpture. It's really hard to describe in words, and it's certainly impossible to capture that feeling rushing through my veins looking at a photography of this statue.
The staging of this statue is also perfect. The blue sky light dropping from the open ceiling contracts the warm lights in the room. At that moment, all I could think of was "Wow. This is beautiful!"
It's quite a story how we got to the Accademia Gallery (The museum where David is exhibited) since there was a storm that day. But I guess I will save the story for another time. XD

And I feel that way about the representation of the male form as an archetype of beauty that too often gets annecdotally cast as pornographic, when the female form in art is hailed as "objectively" pure and unthreatening. Both are objectively beautiful in that nature fashioned us in the many forms that we manifest without regard for any one person's requirements for "beauty."
