Inside

Each year, our city Nantes will organise an touristic event called "Le Voyage à Nantes" (which can be easily translated as "Travel to Nantes") which is series of art works and expositions installed at public places, or inside a city landmark building. (All entrances are free for the public)  In 2018, this event will last for almost 2 months, from 30th june to 26 august.

Inside the magnificent Graslin Theater, there's a neon sculpture, called "inside", being exhibited, and it was the first art exhibition we went to for "Le voyage à Nantes".

So we went inside the theater, at the reception, the employees precotiously told us that it would be dark inside the theater so we'd better watch our steps.

We entered the dark theater, at the first sight, we saw a shining neon skeleton hanging in the middle of the hall. The wires attached to the skeleton were all black, so it seemed almost like the skeleton was floatting in the air. On the stage, there was a giant display of a moving abstract art which looked like blue smoke or blue blood diluted in water.

It's not that I don't appreciate other forms of art, but sometimes I find it difficult to understand what message the artist wanted to sent out to its audience from his art works? I mean, it's an idea, it might even be a great idea perfectly executed, but it also feels kind of... empty. I don't know, maybe I'm just not artistic enough to get the meaning of modern art. Am I stupid for not understand this type of art?

By the way, my babe loved it. So he's probably more artistic than me. XD

Not everyone is going to understand all the art out there. There are simply too many perspectives. I'm part of a Death Positive community(all about confronting the fear of death, understanding the importance of grieving, knowing body and burial rights and laws etc) and they post a lot of beautiful and dark and morbid art, which I love. But I know not everyone else will appreciate or enjoy it the same way I do. I also don't understand a lot of modern art.

Not everyone has to understand all art for it still to be considered art. Take your artwork of the two of you having sex. I love it and consider it art. Someone else could say, "that's not art, that porn." Take Lichtenstein. Some would not consider that art. I do. Or, Claes Oldenburg. I think his work is awesome but some wouldn't consider it art at all. Just because one doesn't like a piece of art doesn't mean that that same piece can't be art to someone else. I would love to see that neon vein guy. It sound incredible.

To me, this is all just to look and keep it in my memories. I rather look at these comics then that xD

There’s no hidden meaning, it’s decoration, not art. I’m sorry but your comics have more artistic technique than that “piece”.

I think I will feel the same way even when I see Mona Lisa.

I felt the same way about an exhibit in Los Angels, some guy aligned bricks and called it modern art. Art is supposed to evoke emotion and I sure as hell evoked the emotion anger that day haha!

That's really how I feel sometimes. I mean, I can see the work went into the creation of the art piece, but I just don't get it. XD

I m with you on this I don t get it either... abstract art is not for me.. I want art to have a meaning, something that is easily recognizable 🤷🏻‍♀️🙅🏻‍♀️
