I ended up having sex everyday for about 5 years because I had sex when I didn’t feel like it. I’m still not sure if it was healthy. But I think it’s like we tried it his way for a certain amount of time and then we moved to a few times a week, because I personally like a little build up rather than just giving into the urge when ever it hits.

It's a shame he's isn't in tune enough to your needs to understand that he was making his pleasure your burden. The first time you said you weren't feeling up to it, he should have said ok, and if he just couldn't stand it jack off. Even better, he should have have said, "I'm sorry you're hurting, can I help put some lotion on your sunburn?" Now, if he decided to add his special lotion to the the lotion he was applying to your back, well... then everyone wins.
