October Status Report 2024

Last month started off with fixing bugs and resting post update before doing the status report I did that month, and determining that there really didn't need to be a bug fix update that month, and so far there's no reports of issues on this update, so here's hoping that's the same, though there's still likely to be bugs, just ideally less need for hot fixing things that make the game explode in some fashion.

Then I set to implementing the Bed-Chan CG before contacting a number of artists to get other commissions started and checking on things. Which after some digging I also learned a bit on why one of them seemed to drop off the face of the planet, and thankfully they're not dead, but do have on going issues that have made them unavailable since February, and I don't know when or if they will be available again. Which is not great for either of us. And I'm primarily not naming them so people don't potentially bother them, please don't bother other artists either for the sake of curiosity.

Then as the first half of the month continued I did editing the substantial Ancilla stuff Val wrote, and wrote then Trisha carry fuck scene, along with more bug fixes as they were reported.

In that first part of the month I also responded to feedback on the games development from users, and as time has progressed I have been mulling over the idea of making some kind of flow chart thing to hopefully better display the intended development path of the game, ideally without spoiling things. Primarily because thinking on it the vague outline on the blog is very minimalist, and the big text wall of info for the plans for supporters, is more of a general overview of intentions and the state of characters, mechanics, and other stuff. And I also tend to forget to update it, which I should probably do.

Which brings us to the second part of the month where after planning and thinking over my options I decided to work on the ghost recruitment quest for Sleim Vllge and Perpetua. In part because Halloween themed, and because it was for further progression of important side content for later main narrative progression differences.

I was also considering doing stuff for Rika, the oni twins, or starting on the voltlin livewire encounter, or a number of other more Halloween/spooky adjacent things once the ghost quest was done.

Then in hindsight I was silly to think I could do it in a week, when it was 3 named characters interacting between the player and Perpetua, involved needing to make riddles (as simple as they kinda are), and ended up totaling over 15k words. Which is over double the size of the green slime recruitment operation.

Which for the ghost quest also includes adding the new rune and consumable items from the completion rewards for it, along with rebalancing some existing items to better mirror them and buffing the priorly really overpriced Jumbo Mint Choco Chip Clarity Cookie. And while working on the rune I stumbled over realizing that a number of CritChanceBoostSelf effects were wrong, and really the perk tag was misleading, so I fixed that, which its definitely an issue that's unsurprising for anyone to come across given how 'quiet' it is.

Additionally in the second half of the month I went over the edits for the Forest Tutorial event and Stop The Vandal event edits that Val did for improvements to the early part of the games main story. The Stop the Vandal file especially needing it given it was made early on and was never properly edited.

As for the hair in the Bed-Chan CG I do intend to add a recolor option much like there is for the body, as well as make it silhouette able. Given you know, it's the first CG to actually have the player with hair.

And for November, aside from any fixes that may need to be done at the start of the month, I'll be working on the Livewire alleyway encounter+fight, with maybe a bit of Ghost trio visiting interaction stuff just so that's not a dangling thread.

Only issue there is I'll be losing about 2 weeks to family time like I usually do once a year. So I'll see if I can get another update out before that, or otherwise see how much I can get done before the end of the month and go from there. If needed I'll push back the update into early December and have a potentially slightly chunkier update instead. But for November of all months I'd like to get something out that's heavily smut focused.

Otherwise I hope everyone had a good Halloween, and if you have opinions on the development info chart thing to let me know because I'm still rolling it around in my head. Cause I do my best to keep people informed on what the plan is and what's going on, but I do also keep some aspects of it rattling around in my head and some of the available information might feel incoherent or otherwise.

Nice to hear the oni were being considered for content. For being one of the four commanders, it always kinda felt like we never got to know them very well compared to the other named temple chars. As for the development flowchart, more information = good. It’s something I’d certainly appreciate as long as it’s not limiting your ability to add things to the game spontaneously.
