2025-03-04 19:48:46 +0000 UTCRe: meal plans in jail — most jails contract meal services through providers that offer a few different options, usually a general plan and two or three alternatives centered on religious beliefs. All meals have to meet daily caloric/nutritional standards, regardless of the plan. Usually there’s a “general” plan and 2 other options (for example, Kosher and Halal). I’m not exactly sure how allergies would factor in, but there’s also the commissary which inmates can use to supplement their meal plans. When you enter jail, you select which meal plan you want. If you want to deviate from the general plan, there’s an attestation that the other one you’re choosing is due to sincerely held religious beliefs. Jails routinely get sued by inmates over meal plan options, that’s why I have some insight bc I used to represent Sheriffs. It’s been a few years since I’ve been in that area of law, though. But I’d guess the same general rules would apply in Maryland like they do in Virginia.

2025-03-04 16:12:56 +0000 UTCI've done a slight bit of research (aka one google search) on the whole "allergy accommodations in prison" thing since I can't eat gluten. Specifically as it relates to gluten, if you have proper documentation/dx from a doctor on file with the prison, they are supposed to provide gluten free meals. I'm gonna assume that the reality varies widely depending on the prison/jail. I could be wrong.

But you can search “scandoval” or something you may have texted around that time then scroll through messages with matching text and see the date on the right. Once you click a message, it takes you to the message AND you can scroll through that day/week. 🙃
