Elevation of Mana Chapter 217 What Mothers Do

Eventually my work began to abate, given off to others who could handle things for a bit and I got a chance to finally return home. That was great, since I had plenty there to do too. I'd barely seen my family after being away and I hated to have to wait for any time, but I'd also needed to set things up so they would be safe later.

“Finally done?” Isha asked as I came through the door into our rooms, Adia asleep beside her.

“No, not nearly, but I can step back for a bit. A few trusted people are working on things, and Chien is out there fixing more things. It will take weeks to sort all this out I fear.”

“Oh, planning to run off again?” I could tell from her tone that she still wasn't pleased about that.

“I am sorry about breaking my word love, but... no, it was wrong, it worked out, but I hated it and I'm sorry.”

“Hmm, well I know you needed to do this, and while I'm not happy about it had you not those things might have come for our daughter. One of them was enough for me thank you, and I didn't even get that close.”

I kissed her forehead. “I'd count that as a win.”

“Should I wake Adia up? I'm sure she'd be happy to see you?”

“No, let her sleep, we all need it, and I think we'll need it more soon.”

“How bad is what's going on at the council house? I heard rumors...”

“They're all dead, I'm in charge now,” I told her, laying back and closing my eyes.

“Are you sure that's wise? You've already got a lot to do and you hate politics.”

“No,” I laughed.

“At least you admit it. Try to pass off what you can to others though, for me.”

“That was a foregone conclusion Isha, though I suspect I'll have to handle a lot myself for awhile at least.”

“Hmm, well when you finally get done with it tomorrow come home. I've a thing or two to show you...”

I laughed, but agreed to her proposal. After all I'd missed her, and spending time with her was also very high on my to do list. Then we curled up together, and began to drift off to sleep in each other's arms. It was nice, wonderful to finally be home.

Exhaustion took me quickly, dreams flowing into my mind as through the night I slept. Others could handle things, though my mind painted pictures of that belief failing again and again. How many times did I see my family in my head that night? I didn't know, but surely it was far too many for any man to suffer.

Jumping from one of the nightmares I awoke to find someone with her head buried in my belly.

“Good morning Adia,” I grumbled out, not sure if I should be happy or not.

“Good morning!” she cheered. “I've missed you.”

“And I you dear. Shall we get some breakfast?” She agreed and the two of us left Isha there, leaving her to rest for just a bit longer. I suspected she'd been quite tired too.

The whole way there, and the whole way back Adia told me about what had been going on. Her point of view was so different, less concerned with what people were thinking and more with how it effected her and her friends. She too complained that I'd left, causing me to smile,, but she wasn't truly angry.

When we returned the three of us enjoyed a quaint, not so quiet breakfast. They were telling me everything, and I was pleased to hear it all, smiling and listening to what their concerns were before I finally had to leave.

Chien and I basically tagged in and out, with him heading off as soon as I approved. They'd managed not to set the city aflame, regardless of what my dreams had been telling me, and were slowly getting things going in the direction they needed to go. It was still a bit of a Herculean task to shift things where I thought they should go, but one that could be chipped at over the course of years.

When I got home I found my wife waiting for me once more, smiling, happy as she took my hand and led me to my own workshop.

“Not quite where I was expecting you to take me dear,” I said as she batted at me lightly with a hand.

“You're not the only one who'd been up to things.”

“Oh? Something to show me then?” I asked with a bit of playful naughtiness in my voice.

“Yes, and this time something you haven't seen before.” That one got me to chuckle, as if I'd ever tire of being around her.

She led me off to the workshop where I had the magical computer research going, the crystals that had adamantly refused to do what I wanted them to no matter what I tried. She'd taken this up some time ago, but I'd not expected her to actually have something so soon for it.

As she closed the door behind us I was stunned, looking at a tiny glowing crystal, almost a postage stamp, floating there, glowing.

“What?” I said, eyes popping. “How?”

“It needed to be alive, so it is sort of alive now,” she explained.

“I... that's not what I was expecting to see today. How did you make it alive?” I gaped.

“Oh sweety, making life is what mothers do, don't you know that?”

Comments

Thanks for the chapter! Well nice! reading about this right now when the insane Ai tech Bubble is popping off like crazy is just so heartwarming... especially since this is a Magic AI and one where nobody has any experience with Computers and stuff nice! nothing to potentially worry about at all right?
