Elevation of Mana Chapter 181 A Worried Mother I

Isha

Thankfully Adia was alright, finding her out cold on the ground had nearly made me faint. However she was merely asleep, unlike her friend, who was crying up a storm. A quick once over had shown that he was the one covered in blood, not her.

“I was playing, and running, and I fell, and...” he trailed off with a bawl, thinking she was hurt or we were angry.

“Calm,” I told him, looking around at his head. “Where are you hurt?”

It was clear he had been the injured one, perhaps the blood had simply scared little Adia that bad. So I would attend to her in a moment, now though I needed to fix whatever had happened.

“Here,” he said, pointing to an uninjured spot on his head. “But it doesn't hurt anymore.”

I looked between him and my daughter, him and my daughter, and I understood.

“We're going to get someone to help you go wash up while I take care of Adia okay?”

“Okay,” he sniffled.

I gathered my girl up in my arms, looking at her closely. It was there, I'd just missed it before because of how weak it was. She had an aura, a full proper aura, and while it was barely there now, it meant that she could cast. I'd been watching her for awhile now, having seen one or two little flares here or there, having witnessed as she seemed to almost do a bit of magic, but now it was official.

After a few more words to get things going I began to walk back towards the house.

“Are they okay miss Isha?” Oa asked as I neared the door, she too was worried.

“They'll be fine, you did good running to get an adult,” I told her, it was good to reinforce that behavior.

“Yes ma'am.”

Once Adia was cleaned up a bit and put on her bed I waited, worrying. Back in our village both Justin and I had been taken away for training. Old Elaya had made sure we were well far away from other people while we learned to use our powers. Would we need to do that now? Send someone off with her for a few days? I didn't like the idea of sending my child away like that. The old Elder there had insisted it was important, but I knew not everyone did such things here.

Perhaps Justin or I could do it instead, but that brought old arguments to mind. Parents could sometimes be poor at judging their children, and I knew both Justin and I fell into that category. He spoiled Adia too much, and if I were truthful I didn't know if I'd be able to keep her away from people like that.

There were precious few I'd trust with her safety either. Even here I was never too far away, ready to help her should something go wrong. There was that one old healer living at the old cave, but she was brutal, and so far away. Even if we'd met few times I knew she'd not hurt a child, but who else? I couldn't trust any of the Elders in the city here, they were all too political for my liking. Rolan? No, he was an Ancient, and had far better things to do than look after a child for a few days, even if he was trustworthy. There was one other option...

“Mommy?” I heard from beside me.

“Oh, you're awake. How do you feel?” I asked, smiling at Adia.

“Heavy,” she grumbled, before bolting upright. “Wait, you need to heal...”

“He's fine Adia. Tell me what happened, and don't leave anything out.”

“Well...” She wove her story, and though it was interrupted by the babbling that every child her age was likely to get into she didn't lie, at least not so far as I could tell.

Her first spell and I'd missed it, I was a bit peeved at that, but it wasn't too odd overall. Magic tended to come when it was needed, under stress, and seeing that little boy Lio bleeding everywhere surely would have been stress. That it was healing was both gratifying and concerning. Those with magic of that type could be magnificently powerful, helpful to all those around them, but they could also become terrors if they wanted.

“Are you mad?” she asked.

“No sweetie, not at all. You didn't do anything wrong. In fact this is a very good day, but you're younger than I thought it would come.”

“And that's bad?”

“No, it just makes things different. We'll have to talk to your father tonight.”

“I'm not in trouble?”

“You aren't, though we'll have to go through some things and it may feel like we're punishing you, we aren't. You see you're like me and your daddy, and you need to control that. The power in you can be very dangerous if you're not careful you see, and you could hurt someone without meaning to.”

“I don't want to hurt anyone.”

“I know, but so that you don't you may need to spend some time away from people learning. Both your father and I did the same, but I'll try to make it a bit better for you than we had it. It's not fun, not at all, but it is important.”

“Okay,” she said with the adorable seriousness children sometimes had.

Taking her hands and kissing her on the forehead I pulled her over and into my lap.

“For now though you'll have to spend the day with me, and I don't want you trying, or wishing, or pushing on anything to make it do things okay?”

“What do you mean?”

“Your magic is still young, and you've not learned to use it yet, so it's hard to explain, but just try to relax and not to change anything around you more than you need to.”

“I don't really understand,” she explained with a pout.

“That's okay.”

Comments

After several chapters and chewing it over I came to the conclusion that what Justin is doing is really damn boring right now. So while he does it we're having some perspectives from other people.

Wandering Agent

Thanks for the chapter! Yep thats okay... I like this new Arc a lot so far! Finally with little Aida now even having magic the very Serious NON-"Rockplaying" faction in the Household is gaining real power instead of just the social clout and connection that come with wielding absolute Cuteness!
