I really don't know who that villain is, but if you can't introduce him/give him the same depth if you don't write a side chapter, I'd consider just going for it. —— As long as the spoiler doesn't reveal too much about what he's going to do, but merely leaves us guessing how and when things are going down I don't see the problem with breaking POV to create that bit of tension.

if you need to write it, then write it, just don't share it or not right away. If it has spoilers, hold of on releasing it until a later date but as a flashback or something.

The only problem is that I actually can't think of who would be the antagonist currently so maybe wait to do a side chapter until after they've been introduced in the main plot....

Voted no. I like side stories but spoilery seems bad. I feel like the story has better flow right now without introducing a big baddie. Makes every new character seem like a possible baddie. But if you feel like the character needs to be introduced now so we know what their deal is and what they’re up to then that’s your call as the author. I’ll enjoy next chapter either way.

I voted no because I don't want it to obstruct me reading more of the main arc sooner :)

I think regardless of the poll I'll end up writing it, if for no other reason than to get it out of my head and get on with the rest of the story. This is more for should I share.

The villain isn't interested in Alana sexually, and is part of the overall fight between the kingdom, particularly with the terror type assaults. This particular person is a bit unusual for my characters in that they don't have some sensible reason, they're just a bit crazy and really mad at... many things.

One other option is to write it and get it out. I have done that with my stories with things that won't make it into the book. It gives my other characters greater depth.

I guess part of the question is what role is this villain going to serve? Is he going to try and rape her? Is he there to just be fodder for her to step over? How is this villain going to impact the story?

The thing is that it's about what said villain is doing at this point in the story. It's just... very, very different than what I've been writing. If I do do it I'll have to hide it under a window or something so people don't accidentally it.

Sides stories as a principal, yes. This particular one doesn't sound like something I'd enjoy reading about. In large part because "Violent and sexual villain" just screams trope to me. Since it is you, I know you'll do a fine job of it. But this just seems to be the kind of side chapter I'd disappointedly not read and wait for the next regular chapter.

Is it a story you can do after the villain has been introduced to the MC? or she hears about them via some means or another? I'm not against a dark chapter but you just recently had one so you will need to do something light and fun to balance it out.
