Is there a situation in this scenario where Dudley’s first year goes so poorly that he wants to leave/drop out of hogwarts?

Harry couldn't use Dudley's name in Hallows then. He'd be THE famous Muggle Slytherin

I have so many thoughts about this what if. First off, please please please make this into a series because I would absolutely love to see a world in which Dudley and Harry have an at least somewhat decent relationship. Between the deleted scene in the movie and all the what if stories about Dudley having a magical kid and needing Harry's help with that, it's always been my favorite string to pull on.
For Dudley's house, I can totally see your arguments for Slytherin and I feel that, vibe-wise, Dudley fits Slytherin house very well as it's portrayed in the books/movies. However, I think there is something to be said about Dudley being in Gryffindor. To the point you made about him being cowardly with Hagrid, Harry was not actually very brave initially when Hagrid entered the room. It wasn't until Hagrid starting saying kind things about Harry that he even came out of hiding to reveal that he was the one Hagrid was looking for. Dudley, for his part, actually stands there and doesn't run from this half-giant of a man, which in my opinion shows at least some courage. Furthermore, Dudley just doesn't have the ambition/cunning that I think is a necessary trait when discussing Slytherins. He only ever excels at wrestling because he tried it and was immediately good at it. Had he failed, I firmly believe that he would have dropped it to find something else he was good at. To me, he does have some qualities that would instead put him in that foolhardy, courageous to the point of bordering on foolishness Gryffindor traits that we see exhibited by Harry, James, and Sirius. It's just that he manifests these traits in a much more negative way, making it harder to see them as the positive traits we think of them as right now.
Either way, I would love to see this story fleshed out! Can't wait to receive my page from one of the books and to have your guys' tour come to the southwest!

I feel like Dean from the YouTube channel HarryPotterFolklore did this What If on his channel … 🤔 Also, are there any KNOWN muggleborn Slytherins??
