I feel like Snape really hated Petunia, and would bully Dudley a lot. Snape also values cunning a lot, and Dudley doesnt strike me as a shrewd character. He may take Neville's place as a punching bag for Snape (which incidentally improves Neville's life a lot!)

2025-07-21 01:11:45 +0000 UTCI agree!! Dudley fighting all the time as a kid may indicate a desire to prove his bravery. Also Pettigrew was sorted into Gryffindor because he valued bravery, and he was a slimy coward, so it's a more correct take that values matter more!

Like if the dursleys went all out and had slytherin posters and all that all over their house like you know they would if dudley was in slytherin? Salazar would roll over in his grave. Haha.

2025-02-15 00:52:35 +0000 UTCOkay, hear me out, i think Dudley is in gryffindor. He might not be brave but i think he values bravery or at least thinks of himself as being brave. In my opinion he has to be a Gryffindor. I know slytherin sounds good but I don’t think it would just be rare for him to be in slytherin, i think it would be impossible. I simply don’t think a muggleborn would ever be sorted into slytherin. Correct me if im wrong but that has never happened has it? I don’t think it is a possibility. The only way id ever see it possible is if the muggleborn in question was like a perfect slytherin, like the embodiment of everything slytherin stands for and that’s not dudley. He can’t be in slytherin. He definitely isn’t a ravenclaw and i don’t think he is a hufflepuff. By process of elimination it has to be Gryffindor and like i said, he does at least value one of the gryffindor qualities. I think he is a gryffindor full stop. I loved this video though, please do a full what if on this topic, ive been wanting that for years. Like a 7 part what if dudley was a wizard.

He is Lily’s nephew- does Snape hate Petunia enough to hate him? Dudley is also blond and looks very difffetent from James.

2024-10-20 23:01:38 +0000 UTCOdd as it seems at first glance, I see Dudley as a Hufflepuff. For all of his faults, he seems loyal to his friends and not amitious enough to be a Slytherin, not studious enough to be a Ravenclaw....he's nervy, but I don't think brave enough to be a Gryffindor...

I am happy you guys enjoyed it and would love to see a fleshed out series exploring how his involvement would affect things, how he would react to Voldemort, etc. but definitely take a break from the What Ifs after Hufflepuff Ron if needed. I personally do not think he would get into Slytherin, but I struggle to put him in any other house. He just doesn’t have the cunning and ambition a Slytherin needs. I think it would be interesting to see how he does in either Gryffindoor or Hufflepuff. I think the hat puts you in the house you value or you can succeed in, and those two would lead to the most change in his attitude in my opinion. I think it would be so interesting if he was the one targeted in Chamber instead of Ginny, and I think after that he would start to realize the severity of the situation and go through big changes. I doubt he would ever be in the core friend group, but I can see him starting to have Harry’s back in some ways.
