In this scenario we are assuming Dumbledore still hears the prophecy, and he still hides the potters, right?
Should we assume he also hides the Longbottoms? Or would the hiding of just the potters be want tips Voldemort towards killing Harry? Because if Voldemort doesn’t know about the prophecy, wouldn’t he be suspicious as to why the potter’s go into hiding?

This is a total aside but I do believe in a relationship you can ask someone to “change their being” if it is something harmful/ negative. Being a death eater/ being into the dark arts is like being a racist.
Similarly if you fall in love with someone who is an alcoholic you can ask them and help them to change because it is harmful.

I believe Snape was interested in the Dark Arts due to taking after his mother's talent and trying to survive his abusive father. Having a talent for the Dark Arts made him fit in with other Slytherins. Also, he could have continued to explore his interest, while not actually becoming a Death Eater. I'm sure if he could overcome his grudge with the Marauders, or dated Lily, he could have not gone the Death Eater path.

If Snape never ends up a Death Eater, I wonder how the later stages of the story play out. He wouldn’t be a double/triple agent, so he wouldn’t end up being the one that needed to kill Dumbledore (unless part of Dumbledore’s Big Plan in this alternate universe is to make Snape appear as if he defects to Voldemort at some point). Also, because prophecy is going to prophecy, is someone on Voldemort’s side always going to hear the first half of the prophecy, even if it’s not Snape? What a great ‘what if..’

Part of the prophecy is …thrice defied the dark lord… so that narrows down who Voldypants targets.

This made me think… is there any way we could connect Antioch Peverell to the Longbottoms? Is it canon that he didn’t have any children?

But then would James still die in this scenario? Or would he still be around to raise Harry? I think you said something about James living in this What If after he pulls the sword 🗡️ out of the hat 🎩 or something, didn’t you? Or did I mishear that? 🤔
