happy December, babes <3 Ghost Lights is close to its 2 year anniversary and it makes me glad I came so far with it. the other part of me is like I ALREADY DREW 2 YEARS ON IT?? AND THERE'S STILL SO MUCH TO TELL omg
I don't have much to show right now unfortunately, but please accept these two random sketches of Noah π»π¦ there's a new Lion King movie coming out, and I remembered the part where Nala was giving Simba bedroom eyes, and I just wanted to sketch Noah like that, too... he's giving Robin that playful look! Once I get to that part of their past, I'm able to show playful banter and Noah's really energetic personality and just Robin getting overwhelmed by cuteness.
but for now, back to the present: in the next scene(s) Noah and Robin are going to have a serious conversation with each other and I need to fix the dialogue and the writing a bit. the thing is that, yeah, Ghost Lights exists for 2 years now!!! But this means the writing is like almost 3 years old, and we all change and we all improve over time and because of this I have to revise the scenes that are going to happen soon-ish all the time, every time again.
i usually become real quiet on patreon when i do that because it can take days for me to come up with a solution when i encounter a small problem or just something i don't really like anymore. sometimes i just rewrite the whole part to make it better π aahhh. i always work on the story, but the writing progress is pretty invisible to my readers. It's a big part of my work that happens completely behind the scenes.
sometimes i receive snarky comments like "why did you only post 6 pages, what took you so long?" and it's like... hey. only 6 pages full of drawn panels, lore, information, dialogue. i think that's a lot. I just want to ask them "Do you know how hard drawing and writing is?" But they won't understand how hard any of it is, so I will just roll my eyes and vent to you guys here sjdfh i apologize. drawing a comic is hard, but writing is just as hard. i wish some people would recognize that those are both essentials of a comic and that they go hand in hand.
I'm sure some of you came across webcomics that are cancelled or currently on hiatus and their reason was something like "i need to fix the writing" or "i need to fix the drawings"? It happens pretty often that comic creators who both draw and write end up in a situation where they can't continue if the elements don't work together anymore. It's very very understandable from a creator POV. i'm a bit afraid this will happen to me, but the thing that helps me greatly with pushing through is that i can work in my own pace and fix stuff along the way. thank you for giving me the opportunity to do that. π
i started rambling (or is this more a love letter to writing and drawing? because i love to do both). just wanted to make sure you guys know that I'm working on it~ I'm just brooding about how they will say things to each other. But luckily I'm almost done with it and i plan to start sketching the next pages later today or tomorrow π
ps. in case someone hasn't received an e-mail about their order yet, i'm trying to send everything off until the end of the week <3 thank you for being so patient ; ; ily
