2024-07-22 00:48:51 +0000 UTCI personally think the album is narratively meant to be backwards. From a creative standpoint he can do more with Shady being alive then shady just dying. I can see it going both ways but there are some weird things about the album going front to back. Houdini seemed like it would be at the start of the album but it wasn't, the laugh at the end of guilty conscience, why Shady starts with pills during the skits and then goes to alcohol, and then dying the hair which seems like he's de-escalating things, why Shady is only fully present in Renaissance. All that was odd listening the first time through. Yes the sounds blend from track to track and I too thought no way could it be backwards but then I gave it a shot and some lines gave a new perspective. Em says on Bad One, let me apologize in advance. On Houdini, what you saw ain't what you saw, the kidnapping never did happen. On Antichrist Bizzaro said, it's about to get scary. Also isn't it weird that Em said listen in order? He wouldn't need to say that to the vast majority of people cause we already listen in order. Reactors jump around based on recommendations. It's just a very odd thing to put out that wouldn't be needed for most people. Again the album does still work forwards but backwards just appears better from a story perspective and I can't unhear it. We won't know till Em's next big project so it's speculation from all of us.

The very first song Renaissance has the trailer clip where we see Em spit on Slim Shady‘s grave and then we see the hand pop out at the last second. We hear Em and Shady struggle for control on half the album when leads to Shady getting shot in Guilty Conscience 2. Em then finally has control but in the music video Tobey we see Shady get back at Em by cutting his arm off with the chainsaw. So Shady is not dead. I believe that the struggle that we’re seeing aside from the obvious that it’s all in Eminem‘s head. Is that this is a battle that is constantly going on for him.

I agree with you that it makes more sense to listen to it from front to back. I appreciate your freestyle! It's pretty amazing to me that anyone can string together a bunch of random words off the top of their head! Hope the rest of your weekend is relaxing. Have a great time with your upcoming shows!

I tried listening to the album right when it dropped (literally the minute it dropped), but came to the conclusion that I do still need the written lyrics to catch all the bars. (I'm a lot better at it than a year ago, though. 😊) Which were obviously not yet available then. And then I've been preoccupied with other stuff and haven't gotten around to it... I'm not sure if I want to try and interpret the songs on my own or if I should just skip that and start watching reactions... I've noticed he makes a lot of references to his old discography and I'd probably miss ~90% of those references if I just reacted to the songs on my own...
