Icarus Shaders: September Updates! (early access)

I am developing using Iris for Minecraft 1.20.1 (iris-1.7.2+mc1.20.1).

intel (and Mac?) are the only gpu brands i know of not working right now. Optifine is broken. please report bugs and incompatibilities and I'll try to fix them soon. Your feedback helps this improve!

versions:

9-30:

-puddles can now last a lot longer without making rain take forever to get things wet.

-reduced default fresnel on rough materials. I think it looks closer to what I see in real life this way and it reduces buggy looking stuff without having to re-calculate fresnel for every ray that scatters separately.

-by default cloud patches are less defined

9-27:

general

lighting

Textures

9-22:

-for rain drips & drops:

For lightning:

9-19: ( i promise i'll start to slow down posts)

mostly rain related:

-extra preset: 'high 2 hd', to follow suit of temporarily having an hd version with less rays, and a not-hd version with more rays, for all the presets under Ultra. I am keeping both while i tune and compare the new hd ones.

9-17:

-less ghosting/trailing. still a little more to work out

-wet screen effect (in Testing menu)

-rain drips, drops & steam down the sides of stuff. (in Testing Menu)

-reduced wetness_f0 (how reflective wet stuff is ) from a stylized 0.2 to a realistic 0.02. also added it to the drips menu and storms menu

-improved some of the behavior where caves are too bright when you first walk into them, i need to fix this better

*noticed that the cave light leak fix destroys sunlight deep underwater, will fix soon

*working on fixing the black tops of physics mod waves, and adding deeper specular lighting behavior, lots of small bugs, and some large features

9-14:

-better Image quality & presets!

-fixed things looking wet, by removing enforcing the physical limit on low reflectivity that most things have in real life

-bug fixes

*I see more ghosting! I know why and will fix it when I can get back in, having a rough week

9-12:

-fixed particle shading

9-11:

-caves should no longer have sunlight leaking in

-defaulted extra sky light on medium, low, high; can be turned off in pbr_lightong/skylight/ambient + reflection

-removed vignette from the raytraced skylight

9-10:

-fixed black particles (will do better shading on them later)

-fixed 99.9% of ghosting, i've only seen it on campfire smoke now, if you see any tell me!

-fixed campfire smoke that was just rendering sky

-fixed distant horizons water not rendering (but it needs work)

9-9:

-Much better Image Quality

Icarus Shaders: September Updates! (early access)

Comments

Latest update has a problem. Puddles last longer but things take way too long to get wet. I need to seperate out the 2 speeds, but in the mean time 'pbr_lighting/wetness/wet halflife' needs to be set to like 600 instead of like 60000

I have decided to change how reflective wet things are again. I am not happy with the last change after playing with it more. In 'pbr_lighting/wetness/' 'wet_f0' used to be 0.2, I changed it to 0.02, I think I am happier with 0.07. I recommend upping it if wet things don't look good. I will update after I troubleshoot the PC.

New presets coming soon! I am going through and refining a lot of things to make it look and run better. Test configs are on discord for now.

I don't know if your can send attachments here

I'm going to upload an even cleaner looking version later today when I can get on the PC. If that doesn't fix it, send me your latest.log and maybe a video on discord and I'll look into it.

Hi. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong, fresh 1.20.1 install with iris 1.7.2 like youve said in your post, but I get terrible performance and noise, and no shadows from the sun it seems. RTX 3070, not sure what steps to achieve a better image quality like in your demo vid
