BTS Is Taking A BREAK?!

Comments

I appreciate you doing this Knox, there's so much history to BTS that the best way to get to know about it all is just to chat about it with other fans. Personally, I think the biggest misconception brought on by this 'break that's not a break lol' is that the burnout and lack of direction was caused by the English songs trilogy, when they said in this Festa dinner that it was planned before the pandemic (hence songs like 'Black Swan' talking about fearing falling out of love with music). The English songs (Dyna, Butter and PTD) came about purely because of the delay in their plans due to the pandemic. I get pretty angry when people (media, Kpop/Western stans) spout stuff like "they released Dynamite and Butter for Western validation" etc (not taking into account that so many Kpop songs are like 80% English anyway and take inspiration from Western music cultures). It's clear as day those songs were made for the fans in a pretty depressing time for so many - they even said they didn't expect them to get so big. The worst was RM saying he was really sad that 'Life Goes On' (single from their self-produced album 'BE') got overlooked (they released this just after Dynamite). All I can say is if you listen to BTS' lyrics and listen to their own words it's absolutely clear what they're doing. Like they said in 'Yet To Come' - "we ain't about it - the trophies, crowns and flowers". The fact the media all jumped on this (out of excitement mostly for the prospect of them breaking up) and twisted the narrative over an extremely informal dinner that was celebrating their anniversary with ARMY, is just testament to the callousness of the industry and media and their war against BTS.

I put myself in their shoes and imagine it like after years of creating really meaningful and impactful music (and you've worked seriously hard over the years and you deserve to blow up), you end up with this huge and extremely loyal fanbase who believe in you absolutely. They help push you to new heights, you're smashing decades long records set by artists you admired. Then suddenly you're leading an entire country's cultural movement in the West. You're bringing in THAT much economic benefit that if you even decided to pause it would have a ripple effect. Even though you are genuine and love music there is just so much hate and defensiveness from basically everyone. Now all of a sudden you have a country counting on you (but not appreciating you), the rest of the world either rooting for you or hoping for your downfall. I'm not surprised they feel so pressured and are questioning everything. They started music because they loved it and had a story to tell but now have so much on their shoulders. And knowing all that (taking away media because they are literally awful to BTS and have been since 2013)...can't imagine how hard a decision it was to say 'I need some time to myself'. I hope they can find that happiness that they deserve.
