Maybe because everyone nowadays is so obsessed with comparing artists to other artists. If everyone is comparing the next rapper to the likes of Eminem then there's enormous pressure and it could be one reason why so many don't make it big. But personally, I've always thought that if an artist is genuine, making decent music that's unique to them, and has a good relationship/trust with their fans then they're already half way there. Of course luck and right place, right time plays a huge factor too. The industry and how it operates is an issue - there's so much working against artists nowadays and the system is really flawed.

Guess it depends on how you measure ‘success’. There isn’t anyone on Eminem’s level of success and longevity but there are some going strong.
