Oh I totally missed this one! Loved this, thanks so much! I know you don't need telling this but the only difficult thing with RM is that he genuinely does use sooo much wordplay, and 'literally' translating his songs just makes them a bit random. This translator did pretty good (I think they must have used a decent source) but I'm sure you can appreciate that there are many, many layers here. We actually have a brilliant Korean-English translator who runs a Wordpress site and she does her best to 'generally' translate BTS songs while also including all the wordplay, metaphors, references etc - the site is called 'doolset bangtan' and I highly recommend it just to get a better idea of the way he plays with language. I wouldn't really bother to say but you're so amazing with lyrics and wordplay yourself Knox that I just thought you might find that interesting :) Thanks so much for this one! RM's first mixtape is criminally underrated, he was so young here but the whole thing is such a journey and really emotional. There are some good collabs on it too, hope you might check it out in one go sometime!

‘Hyung’ means like older brother. In Korea you’d use it to address someone older that you’re close to. It shows how much those rappers meant to him when he was young, and explains how hurt he felt when they turned on him. They were the ones who guided him and who he looked up to.
