BTS: AOTC's Outlander Club

Luckily, the camera movement is artificial so there is no parallax or distortion. The scene is likely 100% CGI, with green screened actors composited.

Very interesting. Thank you. I have my suspicions about which parts are fully CGI and which are practical. I've found BTS info to be useful but not always trustworthy, as there are definitely examples of things that got the CGI treatment late into production.

Seizing the moment when the Jedi enter and Obi-Wan scans the room, he cut to Obi-Wan’s perspective, revealing one of the gaming alcoves, which had been in fact crafted as a miniature. Inspired by LucasArts’ Racer video game, where pod racing takes place across various planets, John Knoll proposed incorporating a pod race as the third sport. While combing through „The Empire Strikes Back“ archives, they uncovered two helicopter shots of a Norwegian glacier, originally filmed for the snow speeder sequence in which Han Solo and Luke Skywalker are being searched for. These shots were enhanced with motion control, and several pod racers were digitally revived to complete the scene. The actors were then integrated into the environment via greenscreen, blending into the digital world.
