Artisan Guild - the Road Ahead

Hello dear Adventurers and Merchants!
I hope your 2022 started wonderfully, may it be a special year for you all.

Its Andrea here, and I wanted to write you a quick update.
It was about few months I wanted to update some aspect of my little sculptor cave here, and the new year is the perfect  occasion for it. That's why I updated the logo.

Update on the Guild

I want to announce that I'm officially sculpting alone. Some of you already know it, as even if it was not official I started to make concept and sculpt alone about 10 Patreon Releases ago, with the Requiem Brotherhood (so you will not notice any change on quality or amount of figures).
Its tons of work, but I prefer to be consistent on every STL. I'm also a control freak on art things, it's both a good and a bad thing but this is what works best for me personally, and it's needed for me to provide you inspired characters and the usual quality I deliver.
Still, I have a super small and focused team of truly professional to manage messages on all platform, support, to aid me with the MMF shop, and to test the newer versions of the GUILDS game.

The Monthly Releases

I love the slots system we have, and will never make less, but still I want to update the monthly sets to be more genuinely inspired.
Currently, we have 6 modular Infantry Units (often +6 with helmets), 4 Cavalry Unit, 2 Heroes, a Heroic Mount, a Scatter Terrain or Prop, a Pinup.
To be more inspired and have more variety, I want to update the sets to this:

It's basically the same amount of figures, but not being forced to have 4 Cavalry let me find better solution for certain thematic sets. For example, next month I'd avoid to have 4 minotaurs on giant bulls, I'm super inspired to make a variety of chariots. Some other month I could be in the mood to make a legendary monster as "Epic Slot" that is not necessarily compatible with a saddle for a hero. It often works, but for some specific sets it works less and I don't want to be limited by the rules, in order to provide the best models for each release.

I also know that many are asking for mixed sets, where we have more variety of races mixed in. At a certain stage it will surely happens, at the moment it didn't because I want to make sure there are at least 6+ varieties of the same people.
This month we had 6 modular vampires (3 ladies and 3 guys), if we were to make some dwarves and humans among them I would have not the time in the month to deeply develop a truly Vampiric set.
I imagine we can have more variety with some more unique sets such "monster hunters" sets, and so on.

Update on our game GUILDS

The update alpha 0.80 of GUILDS, our guild building and skirmish game, is already out!
In the new version we push even more the concept of building a real Guild, we really hope you like it.
While we do not still have a final design for the printable cards, we think you will find super useful the simple (and easy to edit on our side) models scrolls, which you can print and use as cards.
The new update will feature a new system to build your guild, starting from, Guildhall Cards, cards on which depends how many and which miniatures you can deploy in your guild.
Based on this new update, Glory Points are completely gone for a more simple and elegant game, which also translate in a more dynamic turn system.
Official gaming Bases (without decoration) will also be available, infantry models will go in 30mm bases, 50mm for cavalry and 100mm for larger epic mounts and monstrosities.
Still you will be totally free to play with any base.

The Order of the Labyrinth

Today I have finished the sculpts for the 6 modular figures for the next month, I'm totally in love with the lore and the appearence of the new characters!
The Order of the Labyrinth will represent a minotaur faction of the "Order" force in GUILDS, Minocs protectors of the ancient knowledge, led by a wise minoc filosopher priest. In the future we will surely develop a faction of chaos Minotaurs, but for the next month we want to go more classic and greek/roman styled.

Sketches for 2 Minoc Heroes and work in progress of some Labyrinth Minoc sculpts.
Names are just temporaries!

Thanks a lot for supporting guys! Without you I could not do what I'm doing. I'm super happy to be able to create amazing characters and miniatures for your games and displays!
Cheers!

Andrea

Artisan Guild - the Road Ahead

Comments

Hi, there! You should have all the files in your MyMiniFactory library. We also send the link via private message every month :)

Artisan Guild

Is there a place I can download past releases? I had a hard drive fail and I need some of the previous months models.

beersandbacon

I wouldn't mind some more, uhhh... monstrous Pinups. I would have loved to see a gnoll and kobold pinup instead of some humans there. More Scales for the more lizardly ones, maybe a bit more feathers on the avian ones. Stuff like that. Someone somewhere said something about small pets, but adding a mini would be a bit much on your plate. though it wpuld be cool. Your interpretation of a sea snake would be nice to see. One where ther is a head and a tail and arches you can print multilples of to make the snake "longer"

Apocrypta

We need some pig men. Roman gladiator , medieval knight, or Viking we need some pigs

Rob

Got to say I'm not a fan of the "boob cow" warrior, not sure what it is but it just seems "off"

Morten Haggren

So, love the stuff. If I had one request it’d be zombies in your style. Maybe not as a release but maybe so. Been planning to use your stuff in KoW and would love to mix your undead stuff, a big block of zombies is bout all I’m missing. :P

Red Headed Steppeson

I am well and truly impressed that you are sculpting these sets all on your own, please do not burn out. I love your sculpts and after starting to 3D print a few months ago, I can not get enough of your sculpts. Printed the Elder Dragon you came out with last month and it came out so beautifully. I know that I will purchase all of your completed sets on MMF one day, because your sculpts have a quality and quirkiness to them that simply speak to me. Keep up the good work and let the creative juices flow.

To not burn out you might want to hire extra sculptors. I would recommend letting them do extras based on some rough concept sketches you have done. Since it is extra models in the beginning your patrons score, and also gives time to slowly let those who provide the consistent quality you provide to start with some of the models in the main line, and new sculptors doing the extra freebies. Might be hard to start off with, but not being able to get a break (since every month there is a release) will break you. I am a new patron, and I would like to see you make it in the long run. I think you are big enough now to think about the future and grow.

Hans Jansen

I don't think I've even printed a calvary unit yet. Just saddleless versions. Sounds great to me and don't get burned out. I've seen a couple of Patreon artists getting burned out in the last year or 2 trying to satisfy everyone. Keep your sanity!

Matt S

Love the new direction. I've been just printing most of the mounts as monsters for a while anyway!

Dan Wood

I almost always prefer the saddle-less versions of the big stuff anyway, so this suits me just fine. For general use I have way more purpose for interesting big beasties than I do for heroes riding them. :)

Orange Cream

I'm good with the proposed slot adjustment.

Thanks for your awesome work. Your models have brought me a lot of hobby-joy! It's always fun to print and paint them. I'm glad you're changing the sets to something you feel more comfortable with. I'm looking forward of another year of your awesome work :) Also, to add to the "could we please get..."-crowd: Personally I really liked the look of the greatgoblins. They were only three models, but I really enjoyed them. If we ever got a set of those, that'd be amazing! Also, I'm gonna second those who've said that male pinups would be a nice addition, -if- your time allows for it :) Have a great 2022!

Durifen

Wow! I am a huge fan of minotaurs so I am absolutely looking forward to seeing more.

Jason Hall

Love your work! Keep doing what keeps you loving it also! As a side note, selfishly I'd love to see a bust included in one of the releases. :)

3DPrintingAdventures

These sculpts look incredible! You are right, some of guilds aren't "mounts" compatible :D

I LOVE YOUR WORK!

Renan

¡Hola, Samuel!

Artisan Guild

Everything that’s done and everything to come sounds great to me!

Riley Walker

Hello. Will be released 30mm bases for the previous sets? Or something generic to fit in? Thanks! You’re great!

Federico Franconieri

Is this the year I manage to grab a merchant license? Time will tell!

Gallivanter Minis

Chariots are a much better choice for this month, IMO.

Eric Obara

What ever keeps you inspired and loving your work Andrea. I love your line up because it is very use full for many skirmish warbands. But it is frustrating you don't make more ranged weapon options for more of your releases. I will now pray to the power that be that you are inspired to make ranged units and more spell casters. In any case I love your work.

Azuset

Been very happy over the last 2 years with Artisan Guild and I think even happier with the proposed special models over just Calvary. The only really thing I feel missing is Humans in Chainmail and spell casters. Keep up the good work. P.S. would love to see your version of a rust monster. Those always scare the crap out of parties :)

demonwombatofdoom

I really appreciate when you do the more classic non-humanoid monsters that feature commonly in most DnD campaigns. They can be hard to fit into the iterative style of your themed releases, but they're super useful to have. I love your work and thanks for doing what you do.

Timothy Jones

It's good to have a guide to work by, but don't feel obligated to follow it religiously. For instance, some races are big and bulky, like minotaurs, so more large-based and fewer small-based sculpts would make sense. Conversely, small or weak races, like goblins or undead, which generally rely on swarm tactics, could have a wider range of small-based basic troops, and fewer large 'elites'. On mixed releases vs thematic releases, it's possible to have both. Just look at the Short Sword Tale. For instance, this month could have been a combo of vampires and some kind of witch hunters / inquisition. Mixed releases might work best for factions that have already had at least one month dedicated to them; the smaller half-size release let's you add small amounts of new content that got missed the first time around (say, a lack of cavalry), or explore an idea that got cut. But really, just go with your instincts, they've yet to really fail you. Sculpt what inspires you and keeps you going, without stressing about filling a quota.

Rob Silvester

I would so love to see male pinups

Lirazel

I have never been disappointed by an Artisan Guild release, and I have no doubt that I never will be. Thank you for the all the work you put into this. Thank you to the support staff as well.

Don McLaughlin

I'll remain a supporter through and through. Keep up the work, but take care of yourself when needed.

BrokenHeroics

Are there still plans to offer presupported Models of the Kickstarter? :)

Matthias Schobloch

I prefer the change from epic mount to just epic model. As much as I like epic mounts I think having more creative freedom to just make anything that's considered epic is better.

Barokai Rein

Artisans guild was my first patron and will always be a supporter but Andrea feel free to take a month off when ever to just bask and relax if you are ever feeling burnt out physically or creativity, or just to ditch the stress for a while. Love your work and will always be a supporter. Happy to hear you get a break after the sculpting is done but know many of us would be thrilled to hear you are getting a holiday to recharge too.

Chris

In my humble opinion, go with your instincts. If a bit more flexibility in the line up helps with your incredible creativity, then you'll get no arguments from me. If the mixed race fits in with a theme you're planning (as with Frostmetal clan) then go with it, and if not? again, no complaints from me. Happy new year, have fun and thanks for inspiring me

Ben Newman

I trust you to do a wonderful release every month, just like they’ve always been! I will say that I don’t think you need to listen to people that want different races in a release. I love the way it is now, with the release being consistent.

B. Griffith

Love that idea. To be honest, I print the mounts very rarely, but they are useful - still, if there are months you don’t do them then that’s fine! You’re right, for certain factions mounts just don’t make sense. Can’t wait to see what you do next!

Mario

With the mixed sets concept that could be left to something different like a faction set or town set to me. I prefer the race set you have for monthly releases in all honesty. As for the cavalry models I'm surprised you didn't do one model and just have it set up so it's a helmeted body and the weapons as interchangeable with the normal modular hands. With doing another update on your own game though fine with it as in all honesty a game's alpha and beta form for a skirmish game is already interesting to build up as is with one type of movement and model. I can't remember how many years it took for Privateer Press to add cavalry to Warmachine / Hordes.

WarjackedsWorkshop

Another thing for the scatter/Prop part, things like dead horses with an arrow in it on it's side, stuff of that type. I for the life of me can't find one of your quality work and stuff like that is needed for maps we play. Monsters have to eat!!

Matthew

Also it would be nice to see some young and female versions with future as well as past sets. When exploring dungeons and/or playing games you're not always just come across an adult male of a species. Sometimes you come across a nest of young ones or somehow up in a cave or something as well as females protecting them or females out and about I love the female Minotaur coming next month!!!!! Maybe you might want to throw in a child or something would be kind of fun

Michael Abraham

Me: please Andrea marke AG version of Bretonnian knights!! Andrea: more special units, less mounted minis Great start of 2022!! XD Now seriously: great job, follow your inspiration, and if you need to take a break, please do it, i will completely understand!!

Bernat Rovira Lastra

Not at all, i want to keep themes thematic :)

Artisan Guild

Anything to get more sweet male pinups!! ❤️😅💗

LP Wilson

I'm 100% in support of more freedom!! The variety would keep things fresh for me too! Also, I would fully support fewer models each month if it would make it easier. (Such as 3 modular models instead of 6) I'm a dungeon master and print for my games, but I still rarely have time to print and paint all of them. And I can always flip models on the x axis to get more apparent variety. Anyway. Thanks for all you do, you are a star.

LP Wilson

oh its not a log its a pillar/column! viewing this post on my desktop helped my eyes XD still looks amazing

Mini Manatee

Can't wait to see what you can come up with this new freedom :)

Feastingduke

I love your work, Andrea, and I'm excited for whatever direction you take! As a gentle reminder, please don't forget to take care of yourself and your needs as well. Be kind and patient with yourself and your new responsibilities. I will also throw in a vote towards the occasional male pinup, or even a non-binary pinup would be amazing! The very best to you in the new year <3

Robot Stevens

Would Love an Epic Monster !

We Are Not Home Today

So from what I am understanding is if you make an undead pack it might have a few say goblins or dwarfs mixed in? I like the idea of keeping packs the same and not all over the place. Have I read this wrong?

Matthew

If I don’t get my sexy male pinup Minotaur, I’m going to be so furious! Haha.

Blair Fenning

Rock on, you always seem to have great ideas, I’m all for you having the freedom to do what you want.

Bill Curran

Love the new plan for the sets! More variety sounds great.

Quinn Cousins

That is so nice! Can't wait for the guild game! :)

Nicolas Zurita

I'm not too crazy on the mixed races release, the modular weapons would take a hit if we we're to be given mixed races as the arms would be an issue. A monthly themed release is a better fit in my opinion it always gives me something to look forward to every month

Fritz Pediapco

Thanks so much for your questions Gabriel! Its basically 20 days of sculpting, and 10 of testprint and supports. 20 days of sculpting per month is totally fine, I just couldn't make more :)

Artisan Guild

Hey Artisan Guild, We've always loved your work over here at our shop and we hope it continues well into the future 😊. If you ever thought about doing the occasional full monster release then we'd definitely love that as well... Just an idea for you! James & Amy

James Berezowski

Cavalry will always be the first choice :) I will use another kind of model only if it doesnt work with the set

Artisan Guild

Yes, please on the "male pinup" wife and I paint figures and it would be great to have separate ones for each of us. And the chariots/ vehicles would be awesome.

Daniel Sefcik

I consider cutting back because I have too much to print and paint. But then he goes and releases awesome sculpts month after month. I figure it will give me something to do in retirement.

Michael Hewson

Your set is one of the best on patreon (Gryphkins were my first patreon made). It gave troops, cavalry (with time), heroes and monster; basically everything that a wargamer uses. I hope that you'll continue on making cavalry models even if not every month but if you think that kind of unit isn't suitable for a release, feel free to ask on discord for any suggestions/idea.

Lind

Dude...it's all awesome.

Michael Hewson

You are a superb sculptor. Although it1s not my place to say, but I am concerned about your well being, is it healthy to do all this alone? Sorry, I am just concerned

Gabriel Azevedo

You are doing a great job and I am vey happy to have joined the Patreon at the time of the thieves guild, slowly I am also recovering the other releases😁. My compliments you are an excellent sculptor 👍🙂

Vincenzo Gatta

Great plan. Thank you for sharing it so clearly with us.

Cristian Cooney

I'm in favor of the 4 special slots vs. strict cavalry, as well as the epic slot as you've stated. Whatever you want to do creatively works for me. :)

Rob Leonard

Sounds good to me! Super excited for a bunch of Minotaur options!

Brennon Anderson

Anything that frees you up to do your best work is fine with me! I love your style and am always excited to see what's coming next.

Samuel Vazquez Franco

Sounds great.... thrilled about the possible inclusion of male pinups for equality too :D You're the longest Patreon I've subbed too, i occasionally consider cutting back for financial reasons but the releases are too good :)

ScryFi

Could'nt have said it better!

Christoph Gruber

I welcome the change. I would really like to see some non-humanoid monsters added to the mix.

Arman

Thanks for communicating the change in direction, which I must admit makes me a bit nervous! I'm a wargamer, and I love AG because you're the best in a very limited set of artists that are producing work with the fantasy wargamer in mind. Making cavalry each month must have been challenging but it's resulted in really wonderful creativity... the Gurundan salamandars, and the bat riders from last month come to mind. When we hit Rakshakin and started getting cavalry, the patreon went from good to amazing and it's never slowed down. I trust your artistic instincts that cavalry replacements will be special, but I hope that slot continues to fill those wargaming needs of silhouette, height, and role difference. Bring on the chariots!

Brian Orban

I love all your work, question...you do a female pin up every month, could we get a male pin up from time to time also? Sexy or muscular or whatever, just to spice things up... Some of those sexy pin ups would like a guy from time to time, that's my vote! Lol

Michael Abraham

We're with ya all the way! Keep up the amazing work!

Scott M.

Everything your team does every month is amazing. Keep up the awesome work! I cant believe you get all of those done by yourself! That is Incredible

Justin Brammer

I am always amazed by the quality your put out each month, and the fact you do all the sculpting solo is so impressive! Keep up the amazing work, love the changes to the slot system, and those minotaur are looking FANTASTIC!! Can't wait to see the final version of the hero with the log on his shoulder!

Mini Manatee

Andrea, you do you. Your stuff us all amazing, I personally don't care about the mix at all, just love the quality of the minis.

Your a beast and I love your work. You do whatever you need to do to stay inspired and I’d be down for it. I don’t want you to start to hate it get burnt out on your sculpting. Keep it up :) you abs your team are awesome

Jonathan Conley

That's an amazing amount of work. Hopefully you can find another compatible modeller or two to help with the grunt/production work and get some vacation time! :) Love the work you and your team do. I have thousands of models from numerous designers, but AG models are the ones that end up on my build plate first because they are striking in design and visual aesthetic. Keep doing what you do! <3

Alex A

Sounds great! Keep doing what you’re inspired to do. You stopped the polls for that reason and it seems to be working for you. So keep doing what makes you happy!

ResinandFilament

I thoroughly enjoy every months release… now if only had time to print and paint

Andis Gonzalez

I think this is a great call! As a non-wargamer (I use these for D&D), most of the mounted figured are completely wasted on me. Making the figure set that is thematically appropriate is a million times better for me! I know you are working hard- but you are doing great! I love your work!
