Wild Sketching

As we continue concepting, sculpting and preparing the next release coming in July, the Ashen Alfar set (proxies for Dark Elves, Vampires, Drows etc), we decided to record a 2d sketching timelapse in Photoshop. We usually don't do that because it's much more comfortable to sketch on paper out of home, 80% of our concepting is done outside :)
The object in this phase was not to make a nice drawing, but to find the right lines, motion and energy for a Hero. As the models will be sculpted in Zbrush there's no need for the perfect drawing, but 2d concepting is the perfect moment to do quick and wild test of shapes and compositions. We really hope you enjoy the process!

Have you considered something derived from the crested gecko? They have an oversized delta shaped head with prominent spiked ridges starting above the eye and running down the entire length of the body and tail. It’s really a striking look. Anyway—love watching skilled artists creating—thank you so much for sharing!

Is his armor also chitin like, like those of the scourge land survivors and the elf concept you showed us earlier? I'd love that, I'm planning on using them all together for a party of air-pirates! :D

2020-06-12 16:23:58 +0000 UTCI loved the raptor around the 11 minute mark (with bigger, more dragon-like forelimbs). I liked the alfar’s loose, flowing hair. It looked smooth and dynamic. The general aesthetic looks really similar to the Scourgeland set we just got, so I’m hoping it looks a bit more distinct in final form. But I trust it will be awesome. You all rock!
