Welcome! And a January "Alfar" work in Progress

Welcome to Artisan Guild to the new members and hello to every other veteran!
First of all please remember that this month Set, the Sparksoot Goblins is already out! Get your Goblins in this post!

Deepwood Alfar

Now let's talk about the guys who won the last Poll.
It has been a very hard battle for the Deepwood Alfar, but they won the Poll defeating the other factions.

With these guys and gals winning the poll we immediatly have to start sculpting them, as they need to be available the first days of January 2020.
Everything is still work in progress, proportions, details and armor parts still needs a lot of work. An important reproportion always happens once we make the first 2-3 modular and compare them to similiar races (for example the Souless Vampires or the Humans we sculpted).

Being these sculpted with their final size in mind (32mm scale), they could look a bit too exaggerated on the big screen, it's normal. Either we exaggerate ears, face lenght and other features or it will resamble an human after-print

In the universe we are building, Alfar is a race similiar to the elves in other universes. We currently planned to have the 2 varieties of Alfar, Deepwood and Ashen Alfar (with the possibility to expand those 2 main varieties with many classes and new characters of courses).

Deepwood Alfar, the ones we are starting this month, are wild and raging defenders of the forest, using blades, arrows, primal energies and druidical powers to smite their foes. A Deepwood Alfar have no fear to go berserker to destroy anything who treat the woods.

The next month Set will include at least 4 Modular Deepwood Alfar with a variety of melee and ranged weapons and spells (to build your own) and some heroes, including an imposing arch-Druid and a fearsome blademaster heroine. There will also be a mountable sort of deer/stag (a fantasy creature inspired by those animals). We really want to make also asort of Nymph-Driad, who will cover the slot of battle pinup of the month. As some people is concerned with the ability to have male pinups-> well in our opinion every single guy of the next Set is a sort of pinup for the Alfar standard, with fancy poses and hairs, perfect muscles (for the Alfar canon) and visages. Those exaggerated details will get less prominent after prints :)

ROT IN HELL. LOLOLOL :D

WarloQ

I agree regarding the ear size. Traditional elves have human size ears, just pointy.

Fabien de Serres

All I can say is this: you guys do AMAZING work. I (and I think the rest of us probably did too) backed Amazons and the Patreon because I love your art. You can never satisfy everyone, so don't try. Make these guys, and all of your sculpts, what you want them to be. I am glad you are open to criticism, but in the end I honestly hope you remember to trust your own artistic sense. Nobody here paid for sculpts from the people who aren't satisfied with your art.

Jambon Atwood

Could they have much smaller ears? Pointy is fine but can they be normal size? They are not goblins... It ruins them Not a big fan of the eyebrows either. I understand you want to create something different, but I don't mind them being closer to humans

István Végh

Sean, now I see you are true man of culture :D But jokes aside, whole depiction of these elves is saying "they are not here to dance and sing, they are gonna get your head and make a flowerpot out of it", so being a bit grumpy makes sense.

Stas

I hope you are open to including at least one torso form with Wooden/bark armor. I would love to see that. It's not often you see a good Wood Armor or Leaflet Armor set.

Pablo Ortega

I've always been a fan of extra-long elf ears like in "Record of Lodoss War", I like these a lot

Mike Lea

I like the ears.

Sdspecter

I don't know. Seems a little too Clash of Clans. But maybe it's just the digital coloring.

Zeelobby

I think ears more like Sylvanas would be better. :-)

Marti3P

Twink works. lol

Marti3P

It reminds me some of the elves in the game Kingdoms of Amular Reckoning. That is a very good thing!

Mattimao

Maybe a little too thick, like the others were saying about goblins. A little thinner but just as long would probably be better.

Naes003

Someone said a treant for the epic boss, but what about something like a treant/dryad mix? Something feminine but powerfully deadly.

Naes003

Yeah but if the girls look grumy too then you can have Tsundere Elves!!!

Naes003

Now THOSE are elf ears!!!!!

Naes003

Can't wait o see the rest of the crew

Lisa Kellogg

Looking very good. Personal request, less capes and more active poses like crouching, running, throwing or stabbing down.

Brent Kutz

So, I voted for Demonic Hordes, but I don't hate this sculpt. ...because I can shrink them down and use them as more goblins.

Valraven

YES! Those look awesome already! You might want to consider the ears, though - most of us play / DM D&D and those elves are more...sophisticated ears :) Like your vampire ears.

MadMike

Woah, those are some really impressive eyebrows.

Nick

Definitely understand the need to have the exaggerated proportions to make it obvious after print, but I still think they need to be noticeably smaller than the goblins (proportional to the head). With your comparison picture I would think halfway between the vampires and the goblins makes most sense, and aesthetically provides variety between models.

SteveWasEre

I like the long ears, but I think they're a bit too long. Current length is too close to goblins. Take 25% off and they're perfect!

Joseph

The ears would be awesome if they were thinner, but without loosing how big they are as of now, love the warcraft style, everything I ever wanted ;)

Diogo Gonçalves

Yes!!!!!!!! Finally!!

Diogo Gonçalves

Naaaahh, it they make them abit small but pointier I would be very happy ;)

Diogo Gonçalves

Elves Rule I cant wait for the Ashen Elves as well... sorry Nevermoar. 😂👌🏻

Marti3P

cool idea! It's in our epic boss list for sure. Just need to feel inspired to make a concept that could win the Poll :)

Artisan Guild

Not sure if I like them. Looks so grumpy

Northern Light

I second this request! Epic Treant Boss ftw!

Bennett Ahearn

Second!

Robb

NOOOOOOOOO, the absolute last thing I need is more "wood elf" STL's... Or elves in general ..... :( Well at least it's all going to be super pretty and gorgeous and likely make a good bloodbowl team

Steve Holt

GET ON MY PRINTER. Edit: I love it.

CavePainter

Loving the warcraft-esk look (as with all your sculpts), and hope you never change! With the ears... I'd say maybe a touch too wide (as in, they seem to be half the size of his head in width), maybe make them a little thinner/sleeker... but the length of it is perfect imho. Same with the eyebrows, nice and long!

Joey D

I support this suggestion immensely!

Nick Porterfield

Any chance that our next epic boss could be a Treant to go along with the Deepwood Alafar?

Ron Purvis

Loving the clothing sculpt so far! I know we're working in a heroic scale, but I tend to agree with the ears and the eyebrows being too big. It looks very much like a Warcraft elf, which I suppose there's a market for.

D W

I think they said it was exaggerated. And that it will be tweaked I'm sure

Daniel Rivera

May e a tad thinner?

Daniel Rivera

Love it! I cant wait to paint some of these. I just recently became a patron. And I cant wait to see all the new things. I plan to up my pledge once I get my printer!!! I cant wait to print my own armies. And paint more minis. Your designs are amazing I love them.

Daniel Rivera

Love it! Great works as always!

Doug Yount

Cool looking, but ears seem much too large. Those are goblin sized to me.
