Bit of a weird one yesterday. My cat carried a fledgling great tit into the house (thankfully unharmed) yesterday morning and so looking after this baby bird was my task for the day. After a while of it sleeping in the palm of my hand to keep it warm, I managed to feed it some mashed up bread and water through a Pipette. This really gave it some energy and it flew across my room. I realised it was completely fine if it could fly across the room, it had probably just attempted it’s first flight out the nest and ended up on the floor only to be picked up by my cat. The baby great tit got used to me really quickly and so I was walking round my garden looking for caterpillars for it to eat with it happily perched on my finger. After the caterpillar this lil bird was fully charged up! So I set out to find it’s parents, I live in a pretty wooded area so it was no easy task. The little guy had started making calls so that his family could find him, so I listened out for similar noises in the area. I heard and recognised the call of a great tit not so far off and after a while of walking to and fro to try and locate it I finally found it! So I pointed the little great tit at a branch of this great oak tree and it took off with a little flutter and landed on a low branch. I took a step back and a flurry of seven or so great tits came down to greet their lost chick.
It felt great getting that little yellow chap home but at the same time I didn’t get much work done that day haha! The next page should be going up later today.
