They’re direct energy beam weapons, they draw their power from exotic matter housed in a storage unit in the weapon. The exotic matter is sourced from another plain of reality, like the Flux but not the Flux. There are many layers of reality that exist parallel to our own in Humanity Lost. Most are unknown to all but the All-Mother and her Imperium.

And if the drone soldiers have like, special sexy CQB weapons or analogues to light machineguns/suppressive fire weapons
