Apple Goes Full Ted Empire

Hi Everyone,
There's some news from Patreon this morning and it's so sucky and depressing but let me some it up:
If you are already a subscriber: You're fine. Nothing changes. Your subscription price is not going up.
If you are not a subscriber: Starting in November, Patreon will be forced to use Apple payments system which means Apple will be taking 30% of all new transactions through the app which means:
DO NOT SUBSCRIBE TO ANYTHING ON PATREON USING THE IOS APP. USE A WEB BROWSER.
If you sign up through a web browser, even the browser on your Apple phone, that 30% will not be taken out. You can then log in to your Patreon app on your phone and use Patreon the way you normally would.

This sucks and we hate it, it's a real blow to people trying to create things independently coming from Apple, a company that likes to say it values the creative mind.

In many markets you can also see that apple users are more likely to pay to begin with, so many digital creatives connected to mobile depend on apple products. They don't have a monopoly on the market, but they do have such a vast majority of users able to drop a bit of cash that it amounts to the same thing. Never buy through store fronts, always find the source to give your money to.

Just a reminder that Apple dodges taxes on an Olympic level and thus pays a small fraction in taxes compared to what they charge in transaction fees. If you can use a loophole to avoid paying them, it seems only fair given they do the same to all of us. What they dodge on only one segment of income could pay off the student debt of over over 1 million Americans. (insert rant here about how underfunding education, because heaven forbid we tax giant corporations properly, pushes the cost onto student borrowers. I was faculty at a small, underfunded, HBCU for 18 years, so I have Some Thoughts.) TL;DR: No fucking Teds. Also, rip off Teds every chance you get.
