But the… [major spoilers] AI-abusing time-wizard Benefactor did not have that tech. Either because they think it’s irrelevant to their goals, they somehow can’t do it (implausible), or they know about the neural weirdness that happens to residents of these “constructs” and need to hear it in the form of interrogation or something.
