generally not leaving comments as I binge these bc there’d be waayyy too many BUT I had to on this one bc holy shit, COMPLETELY forgot about this ep it’s been so long since I watched the show! the criticism for the catfish storyline is so valid but tbh, I like the fact it sets the audience up to truly think this is just a normal episode of Glee, that these kinds of horrible things happen to normal kids going through their own dramas that SEEM so unimportant when faced w something literally life threatening - which no kid SHOULD have to face, and that’s the whole point. Ryder should’ve been able to process his emotions like any teenager, but instead now has this massive trauma overshadowing that. NOBODY goes into this episode expecting it to be the way it is, and as rare as it is to say for Glee (bc generally speaking it’s not the most serious show and has a lot of silly plot lines) I think this is one example of some seriously great writing. to top it all off, SUE !!!!!!!!!!!!!! god. I forgot how well done this episode is. the songs are a bit of whiplash in terms of feel but EVEN THAT plays into the idea of a scenario like this not “fitting” into ANYONE’S normal life bc it ISN’T normal for something like this to happen, these are just kids trying to cope! the discomfort we as an audience feel is purposeful in every choice here, even in songs that juxtapose the tension and fall flat feel deliberate for that very reason. SO good. so glad you could see the value in this ep for what it is!!

2024-12-17 20:58:10 +0000 UTCI personally don’t like the catfish story. It’s kind of ridiculous to me that Ryder didn’t find out right then and there whose phone it was that rang. Like I get hanging up in the moment but after it was all clear, why not try calling again and finding the bag that had the phone? But then again, I never liked Ryder and I especially can’t stand him now after knowing what kind of person the actor is who played Ryder.

2024-08-24 14:01:49 +0000 UTCi know this is a controversial episode and I believe at the time it aired it made note that it was only like 4 months after the sandy hook shooting. I for sure don't think you ever expect a show like glee to handle a topic like this despite doing ALOT of difficult storylines in the past. I thought the acting was really good here, Sam (Chord) was one of the standouts for me. I do think maybe they should've moved the catfish storyline to a different episode if they wanted the episode to focus on this. But having this episode and then also knowing to getting even closer to having a real life tragedy on the show with Cory's passing is heartbreaking.

The performances I didnt quite like, loved the songs but they felt flat compared with the scenes they were sung in (for me). Ps: it was a little funny that in the start of the video you said that the day will turn into a fantastic one because of a new ep of glee and then the episode happened 😅 its like you jinx it

2024-08-22 20:16:51 +0000 UTCNot a favorite episode of mine, because of the whole catfishing Ryder thing and the school shooting incident(even if the acting was really good); that was kinda too much for the show to make the point of making every moment count and the importance of making sure those you love know how much you love them/know what is important, even if that message is important, and even if nobody actually got hurt, it really still affected everyone. When I first saw it I thought that it could either be the writers putting another crazy moment on Sue on top of every crazy thing she has done, but at the same time it would be too much even for her, and then Becky came to mind, because who would she cover for like that, one person she loves just like family.
