You should read about making this episode, Darren wanted to do it live to feel the emotion which we know he did, but he said he took Chris"s face in his hands and said if you cry I cry. You can see tears under Darren's eyes and he said afterwards Chris went to his trailer for about an hour and would not come out. I read all this in an interview Darren did. Talk about TRUE emotion.

This is one of the best Glee episodes for sure - acting wise, story wise, performances wise and song choices. All fitted brilliantly. I am not a big Rachel fan, but here I was on her side throughout as Finn did break up with her and didn't contact her for 4 months like she said . I feel sorry for Finn ofc, but he's never understood how much he means to people, just being that solid, pretty dependable rock for people.
I adore Blaine and Kurt so that one really tore me up. Unfortunately, this is the one point I think the writers showed they didn't know their characters or they were losing them a bit, as you said it was unbelievable that Blaine would cheat on Kurt, and I agreed. I literally couldn't believe it the first time I watched this episode. I never would have thought he would be a cheat, especially after how he dealt with Kurt texting that one guy last season (not saying that was right either ofc). But this is the first time Blaine's character really disappointed me. He can be impulsive we've seen, but no one could deny how much he loves Kurt, and I think the writers did him dirty. He's just one of those characters I can't hate, it was just frustrating what they had him do. I wish they took the mature root like Santana breaking up with Brittany, or just told Kurt that he was feeling lonely or left out, but it doesn't excuse Kurt putting Blaine on the back burner either, when he was trying to contact him and talk to him. I honestly believe if Kurt had said a simple 'I love you' back on the phone or they'd planned an exact call back time, then Blaine wouldn't have cheated. It may be reaching, but I think that's true.
Also, Darren Criss smashed that Teenage Dream song and I have read in a few places that he wanted to do it live so he could really get across the emotion, and they let him.

I guess the episode is not called the break up for nothing 🤧
I really loved this episode, the acting, songs and performances are top notch. To this day I still have the scientist on my playlist (and I first watched when it first aired) alongside with maybe this time, my man, rumor has it/someone like you and shake it out but all the covers from this episode are playlist material tbh

This is such an ambivalent episode; such great acting and great songs, but also so sad. Rachel and Finn you could kinda see it coming I think, and kinda also Blaine and Kurt, even though you were rooting for them to make it work, until we hear Blaine cheated, I know he felt underprioratised/lonely, but it still didn't excuse, what he did, and then the others as well, just wow, like all the major couples... I remember the heavy reaction of fans back then, and I knew, you'd be so emotional/broken by this(and crossed my fingers for it not to be at point of rage-quitting etc. Since I know how much you were rooting for these couples especially Brittana, but stick through it, love your reactions...)
