Mooniverse News 11-24-24, Some reflection mostly on Chapter 1...
Added 2024-11-25 00:41:18 +0000 UTCFor this one, I kinda have struggled to come up with anything to talk about... but here is what is happening...
PMHA goes public on Black Friday.
Work continues on the MASSIVE BACKLOG of games fellow devs sent me for PERVERT CITY, my review side of this Patreon. I still have a whopping 20 games to play... Presently working through SHUT UP AND DANCE, which is a pretty AVN I have wanted to try... So far, so good...
I was thinking of making this one the reflection post... I saw TwistedScarlett did something similar where she talked about her past and how things got here...
To be honest, have I not said that? Not fully sure... Anyway, if you are new: I started with alot of assumptions. I made a limited texty game to meet the goal for Nanoreno... I didn't know Nanoreno was a thing until I started and learned crap I still am not 1000% sure is true or not. I also gained a 1 star review on Itchio I reported for months because I felt the dev didn't even play PM... Anyway, I have spent every update since the initial one fixing crap I did at first.
If you have been with me for awhile, you remember this image. It was a piece of stock art I found and modified to suit my needs at the time... It's since long gone... To be honest, The Mooniverse Discord has helped ME as much as it has for other devs. I got advice and grew immensely from asking questions all while connecting other devs to other devs to help them grow and in time, I have connected with industry greats such as Moonbox and Classy Lemon, who joined and brought legitimacy to what I sought to build, basically a dev collective to help make games better built on the idea of "if Airell will take his time to help me and give me advice, then... why can't this be done en masse?". Thats why you might see people mentioning "the community I have fostered". It cant be seen by non-devs, but it DOES exist. (For example see below)
Sometimes, it was just a fun community of misfits...
Though, back to Chap 1...

Some of my early images were fucking horrible, cobbled together mess and I am shocked I have people who have been with me since these days... You can literally feel how mediocre I was... From Nora's facial overdesign to a character that was project creep incarnate and the fact that the characters were placed hodge podge over a background with the lamest text ever used.
I never did anything with the center character. I think they were used for filler at times, but I cut their presence. The lone one here who didnt change was Arthur, the narrator. His design was always fine and he is a footnote, messing with him would have been more project creep (project creep is when you add things randomly and bloat the project. Chapter 5's was the big map I made, only to scrap it and barely use it for a cutaway...)

Here's yet another example of how bad Chapter 1 was for me... BUT... It was all baby steps.
PM, now PMHA, was valuable. It taught me some dev fundamentals that I wasn't aware of... Now I know that I need to think more when I start, identify my direction before first release and become laser focused on it... I need a template to work off of... Nothing that makes me unable to create, but a thing I can use to keep me under control, focused and on task. Many of my fellow devs raised their eyebrows to learn I not only never created a "design document" but also barely kept coherent notes. This will also change going into In the Bag, as I need to curb my disorganization.
Anywho, I don't wish to recall Chapter 1 anymore. It was a mistake and in retrospect, I feel embarrassed I even released it... It was a set back I couldn't afford and thankfully and also luckily, I didn't pay the price for it...
Thank you for reading. Have a nice day. Next one, I think I will do a behind the scenes of Chapter 2... When I uplifted myself from being trash to a possible diamond in the rough...
Til next time. Peace.
