I want some of the quotes from this Ep on a T-shirt… “Ball bearings you can eat, MASTERpiece!”, “Not you too Bob!?” and my favourite “You just got a cancil axe from a cancil van, an’ now yah diggin’ up a cancil road! I’m reportin’ you to the cancil!”

I think this is a beautiful episode. So underrated, I agree with Alec. Quite a lot of people hate this episode but I don't understand why. The story of love and hope after an abusive person leaves the family is a beautiful one and I also love that the creature wasn't evil, it was just alone and scared. And everything worked out in the end. Everyone was ok. I think it's exactly the sort of nice filler episode needed before the drama pain of the last two episodes of the season. It fits in well for me. 😊

I’m glad you liked this episode. I always found it to be quite underrated. The last ten minutes just fill me with so much happiness and I love the story of a mother and daughter overcoming the fear left over by an abusive father. Just some really hard hitting stuff that doesn’t get enough credit and not to mention was acted beautifully. I also love how the roles were reversed this episode and Rose got to be the one to ultimately save the day and get the thank you. Also this episode was made because of a tight budget (as most of the budget went to the two parters) as you could probably tell because there wasn’t that much cgi used at all. Considering that, I think they did a great job.

This story (which I personally think is ok - nothing particularly memorable;but quite ok) was actually a last-minute replacement for a script which had fallen through. For some reason it has become reviled by a substantial part of fandom; who talk about it as if it was something they'd found on the heel of their shoe. The writer,Mathew Graham, did a perfectly good job under the rushed circumstances. Yes,it's cost-cutting filler - but it's none the worse for that. Classic series references (i.e. the Doctors history) are popping up with greater frequency (I suspect partly because Tenant was such a huge fan since his childhood, and probably kept asking for them). The reference to the Doctor having had a family once was a little off-the-cuff nod to one of his previous Companions in the Classic series: his Granddaughter,Susan.
