Such a fantastic episode, as per the rest of the series! Also... what is Mrs Selvig doing?!
Although I have got a weird case of conjunctivitis that came out of nowhere (and won't budge, but I do have medication for it now), thankfully I already recorded this episode reaction and episode 7's too, which I've yet to edit the uncut for. That'll be up after the next Twilight Zone post!

Don't worry about being confused, lol, it comes with the territory! And theorycrafting is practically unavoidable. You're right to think this is reminiscent of Black Mirror and The Twilight Zone. Those are the most commonly-mentioned media which must have been inspirational, along with Lost, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, possibly The Matrix (Cobel/Selvig's car is a white Rabbit), the movie Office Space for the absurd workplace comedy bits, and the game The Stanley Parable.
