UNCUT - The Bishop's Wife (1947) Movie Reaction - Sync to DVD (Pal - Region 2)

Hi all! Here's my reaction to the wonderful "The Bishop's Wife" (1947)!

I absolutely love this film and definitely a festive favourite now.

Just so you know, there is a known issue with the newer physical media versions of this film. The Samuel Goldwyn DVD version is the only version intact, it seems. The Bluray has the issue that they re-scanned the original film reels and then cleaned them up... but missed a few lines of dialogue later in the film, along with trimming a few scenes slightly (like a scene of Grant playing the harp).

So to combat this issue and to watch the full version in the best quality, I have edited together my own version with all parts intact from both the Bluray and DVD combined and watched that version.

However, to sync with your own copies, I was left with the issue that it wouldn't sync... so I re-timed it all to be correct your end. THIS version syncs correctly to the Region 2 Pal DVD (Samuel Goldwyn version) and then I have another version I'll post, which will work to sync to the streaming or Bluray version. I hope this all makes sense.

Either way, the better quality full version will be the one shown in the edited YouTube video and wanted to have watched all parts, so this was the best way to do so.

Anyway! I hope you enjoy

David Niven was originally cast as Dudley until Cary Grant was brought in and assumed the Dudley character. I can’t imagine Niven as Dudley…And Cary Grant delivered and more. Elsa Lanchester as Matilda the house keeper was charming. Monty Woolley and James Gleason supporting roles rounded out a beautiful uplifting film. This movie has moved up in my list of personal favorites over the years.

One of the many lovely bits in this movie is the subconscious perception given to Professor Wutheridge: the unbeliever; the non-religious man, is the one who accepts the most obvious miracle that Dudley performs, and he senses Dudley at the end. The actor is Monty Woolley, an actual professor at Yale; friend of Cole Porter (he and Grant acted together in a movie where Grant played Porter); and the star on stage and film of a very different Christmas movie, "The Man Who Came to Dinner". Debbie, by the way, is the same actress who played Zuzu in "It's A Wonderful Life".

Arsenic and Old Lace - Wonderful, I was hoping you'd recognize the glorious James Gleason!!! He's the one who tells Mortimer, aka Cary Grant, that he hasn't slept in 24 hours! I will take James Gleason any time I can get him, he is a simple marvel.
